Where are you? Which shingles vaccine? The original Zostavax or the newer one? In the UK it will be Zostavax from the NHS as the new one is only available privately at present as stocks are not enough.
The pred dose isn't a problem but adverse events listed for the Zostavax vaccine include PMR and shingles.
Hi PMRpro, I am in the UK x
If it were me I think I'd decline the Zostavax one. This is a post I did a bit back:
I was offered one the winter of 17/18 when the flu jabs were about, and although I was in remission from GCA, I declined! Still using older version.
It wasn’t mentioned in the last year’s round of flu jabs so I guess it was on my notes that I declined.
No point in rocking the boat!
I am in the US. I took the shingles vaccine in the fall of 2016. I promptly had a minor case of the shingles. About two months later I was diagnosed with PMR> I have been told to not try the new one.
A friend of mine nearly lost the sight in one eye from shingles and it scared me. That is why I decided to get the shot. Up to then I hadn't had any kind of shot for about 35 years.
Good luck
It is a tough decision.
I had shingles vaxination, can't remember which one I had, three weeks later I got shingles, not nice
My Dr. said no shingles vaccination until this is all out of my system.
I had shingles this spring, already had PMR. It was on the side of my head, which scared me at first, I thought it might be GCA coming on. It was terrible for five weeks, I had forgotten what feeling good was like.
I had shingles just before diagnosed with PMR, think I had PMR much earlier. I asked the doctor about shingles shot later on. He said definitely not now, we would discuss it at a much later date.
I am on 7 mg of pred. I was offered the shingles vaccination and was told that anything under 20 mg would be fine, so went ahead with the jab and had no problems although I was told it could cause a mild dose of shingles.
It didn't
