Shingles vaccine

My GP is recommending I get the shingles vaccine. I thought I had read that PMR (which I have) can be a side effect of the vaccine. I am asking what you think.

Which one is he recommending? The original one lists PMR as an adverse effect and there are several people on the forums who have developed it very soon after a shingles shot. If it can cause PMR - I'm really not sure someone with it should potentially add to the joy!!

The new one hasn't been widely used as yet but there are concerns that it may overstimulate the immune system in patients with autoimmune disorders.

These are links to my previous posts about it:

I've never been offered - but I think I would refuse. Certainly the first one - and I'd rather see the new one used a lot more first so they find the downsides more clearly.

Personally I’d be wary of taking anything that stimulates the immune system artificially with my autoimmune condition. This vaccine is not expected to stop shingles in everyone but too lessen the worst effects that can happen. It is not a life threatening disease and antivirals are available. I have shingles now, and still wouldn’t have it. If anyone says there is no evidence of some effect or other, check that it isn’t just because nobody has really checked yet or there hasn’t been enough time to get evidence.

Or they simply didn't happen to mention it...

Hi I asked this question a couple of days ago (please see Dorset Lady and PMRpro 's response to your post). I've decided not to have this vaccination until it's been around a bit longer - not sure there's enough knowledge about the new one.

I had the shingles vaccine in September. Just an itchy arm, for a few days thereafter. 13 years GCA. Diagnosed Addison's Disease last year.

I have refused my Drs offer of a shingles vaccine and told him why. They are still using the live vaccine which is not good for us.

I am in California. My doctor said it was safe to get here. It is a dead vaccine, not a live vaccine which I cannot get.
