Sorry, I can't find the post re tooth extraction - someone needing a tooth out had been told by her dentist she needed to wait a week after stopping steroids; I've been told by my Rh Consult that I should wait 6 months. So just in case - might be worth exploring.

I have been on steroids for two years and have had to have several teeth out. Haven't had any problems with healing each time, though they do prescribe an antibiotic afterwards just in case of infection after treatment. I think there is more concern about the likes of alendronic acid (especially the annual injection for osteoporosis treatment which has a low risk of incurring jaw claudification) by my team than with the steroids - hence why my remaining teeth need to come out! However no mention of my having to reduce steroids for tooth extraction. Just thought I would put it out there.
I don't think that is correct either - having a simple extraction while on pred is no big deal. Plenty on the forum who have had hip or knee replacements while still on pred - without detriment. As Marilyn says, alendronic acid is a far worse scenario than pred.

A couple of years back I had two teeth extracted and the Dr. upped my prednisone for a couple of days just incase I had a flare when going thru this. It was fine.
Replying to others re my post, I will check next time I see my Rh.ist, but I think she mentioned risk of sepsis. Other's experiences obviously go against this, but I wonder if something different about tooth roots. I see helpful idea of upping steroid dose before treatment.
