I have it. Had to cancel my trip to Sweden. feel VERY sorry for myself. BUT things could be way way worse. I had the flu shot and am hoping for a lighter case. I am thinking that the prednisone made me susceptible to the flu but that it now will HELP my lungs with the inflammation and coughing! a double edged sword?
INFLUENZA! : I have it. Had to cancel my trip to... - PMRGCAuk
INFLUENZA!
How disappointing to miss your visit with family. I had flu jab a few months ago and, touch wood, been ok so far. Hopefully pred will help you fight this lurgy. ๐ค
I am so sorry about your trip and that you are sick. I guess I donโt really have any uplifting things to say this morning. Iโm thinking of you.
Sorry you have had to miss your trip,, l hope you will be feeling better soon ,l do find the prednisolone has helped me avoid asthma attacks when l get a sore throat or chest infection.ATB ๐
That's rotten - will you be able to catch it up later?
Not necessarily the Pred. Iโve had a flu jab for many years, pre, during and post Pred - never had a problem.
This year - I got it (only 24hours fortunately and relatively mild), but been off Pred for over 2 years. Put it down to body being below par after 2 joint replacements.
Pred not always to blame.
Sorry to hear about cancelled trip.
Sorry you had to cancel ,it must be very disappointing for you.
Oh Dear Yogabonnie
How awful for you, Get Well Soon ๐

Sooooo sorry!
I'm totally convinced that Prednisone lowers our ability to fight off these nasty viruses.
Early this year I couldn't shake off the coughing and flu symptoms. It was over a month that I suffered.
Lots of hot lemon ๐ water did seem to ease the coughing ...also I rubbed Vicks vapour rub into the soles of my feet at night, then put on a thick pair of socks. Did help a lot to stop the coughing.
Probably because PMR is an autoimmune disease we are more vulnerable to colds etc.
Feel well quickly.

Oh so sorry yogabonnie how gutting!
There was a shortage of the specific flu strain vaccine. I was given a generic one because I was too young to have the specific one. I guess you are too.
Get better soon and I hope you can go to Sweden soon.
Hope it's a mild case you have.. ๐
Bad luck you're having, it affects everyone different - I didn't have enough side effects that would have stopped me going on holiday. It is what it is now for you - don't look back just look forward to re-booking. Hope you feel better soon.
REBOOKED in early May. Lovelier weather in Stockholm then!
"REBOOKED in early May. Lovelier weather in Stockholm then ! "
Good to look on the positive side. ๐
Can only be better than this week!!!!
Are you having it bad too? Itโs rained - and heavy winds - for two weeks now!๐ Canโt even get out on my m-scooter. Canโt wait for better weather! Feel almost housebound!
Beautiful day here - made it to 14C and was sunny much of the day. Yesterday was disgusting - got up to snow lying and then it drizzled all day. And I hurt! But today I feel SO much better. Though the rugby result may help too - GO WALES!
Aw Yogabonnie that's a shame. Get well soon and look forward to your trip when you feel better.๐ป๐ป๐๐๐น๐น๐ท๐ท
Oh Bonnie how disappointing. I'm glad you didn't get sick in Sweden however. Take extra care of yourself so you can recover and rebook ๐โค๏ธ
Cr@p Bonnie. Iโd be disappointed too! Hereโs hoping you have a speedy recovery.
What bad luck yogabonnie - I know the feeling I had to cancel my last trip to visit family when my Achilles caused probs due to Pred - now I can soon go but likely with blurry eyes due to cataracts - can't 'win'. Anyway hope you have a nice time when you get there !!
What a shame yogabonnie! Hope you will soon be feeling much better. There seems to be so many things , viruses etc going round. You are the third person on here that has had the flu jab and then caught the flu. I wonder if it was, like Jane said, a generic jab you had rather than a specific one? Hope you will be able to rearrange your holiday soon.
The flu jab only protects against about half of the flu viruses that are circulating in any year - the others have mutated too much between the decision and the deed. But nevertheless that gives you a 50/50 chance of not developing a flu when you meet it - instead of a 100% risk. There is no such thing as a "generic" jab - a specific one would be even worse. One day they will find a way to amke a vaccine that will prepare the body in a different way, and then the outer coating of the virus will be less important than other factors in the development of immunity.
