Mine still seems to be present. Won't go as far as to say correct ...

It’s on my chin.

Hi Pongo 13..... Mine too😮. It's a 'Whisker Patrol' each morning😆... They're growing like weeds😆 Hair has thinned a lot😒 Can anyone say if it reverts post Pred?

Whisker Patrol? I am thinking about setting up Dignitash as a service for those of us with beards and Moustaches 🥂🥂

I eat 15 unsalted cashew nuts every day and it helps to give new hair growth. Mine became very thin after I started the Prednisone. 😢

I also stopped the highlighting of my hair. That also helped.

Of course it will. It all takes time. 👍

Mine has grown back, is a lot more curly and I have lots on my chin : ( don’tknow If it’s the prednisone or old age.

OH had very little pre PMR and Pred - but he's always had a very strong beard and moustache.

Mine’s grown back all curly, not as thin as it was at first. I quite like it.

Mine thinned out and frizzed up until I started taking folate along with D3 and calcium. Don't know if that was a coincidence or whether it actually helped my hair. Some people swear by Biotin.

My nails are fantastic, though.

I gathered all my hair out of the sink drain today! 🤭

Hair - oh dear - having it short (even pre-Pred) helps as people don't seem to notice as much when it goes 'missing'. Mine is fine silvery/charcoal etc mix (naturally and has been since my early 50s) so don't colour it and cut what there is left of it myself (told I am not exactly 'bald' though) - and hairdressers never worked for me - and so expensive - well as you see yogabonnie the less said the better (LOL) !! Thin hair on my head and legs, but more peach fluff on my face. Nails growing much faster and what hair I have is now much curlier than pre PMR. Go figure!

I was always very proud of my thick hair, but sadly no longer.

Oh Lordy - is hair loss a common side-effect of taking pred? I'm only six months into my pred journey and this is the first time I'm heard of this one! (I take heart from the fact that PRMpro says she still has hers.)

Oxford8 profile image

Not a problem for me on pred Hildalew. No marked hair loss and no unwanted growth either. 👌👍

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toHildalew

Hair loss with pred has never been a problem. I lost it with untreated PMR and in the month I took methotrexate - came out in lumps then! But it has recovered each time - even the brillopad version that methyl prednisolone caused went fairly quickly once I was on prednisone.

Phew, that's a relief! For once, something to cross off the list of things to worry about.

It’s a coincidence that you have mentioned this today as just this week end I noticed that my hair seemed much thinner .My plaits are skinny.

Had fine hair but a lot of it. Still have fine hair but not so much. It also like Sheffield Jane has a slight curl to it now which it didn’t have before. I’m like Pmrpro that I don’t wash my hair so often now ( try to go 2/3 weeks which sounds disgusting but it seems absolutely fine - not greasy or dry) That way I don’t lose so much.

YuliK profile image
YuliK in reply toJackoh

Are you still taking Pred ? That doesn't help hair growth.

Please try the 15 cashew nuts every day. I promise you that it helps. 👌

Now this sounds like an excellent bonus. I love cashew nuts! Many thanks for the tip.

Love the idea of cashew nuts!

I lost hair on high doses of pred but it did improve later. I used to have fine silky hair, now it’s dry - not nice. Also it is getting darker (going back to mousey) - I preferred my silver hair!!!

Jackoh profile image
Jackoh in reply toYuliK

Good idea- although I may find it hard to stop at 15!! Love cashew nuts or any nuts for that matter!!

artfingers profile image
artfingers in reply toYuliK

I eat about 25 cashews a day broken into two snacks but it hasn't helped my hair loss. Guess I'm unlucky that way.

PMRpro profile image
PMRproAmbassador in reply toJackoh

It's only the start of extending the period between washes that is hard - once you get to 2 weeks it's fine. Even just standing in the shower, no soap, helps a lot I'm told. A bottle of shampoo lasts a LONG time ;)

Cashew nuts sound good but I'd need a mortgage to pay for them! Non-salted are next to impossible to find and pricey when you do!

Jackoh profile image
Jackoh in reply toPMRpro

Yes I found it difficult not washing hair so much at first. Now it looks perfectly fine after a long time. I do use a little soap in daily shower but hardly any and use the double base cream after which I think really helps the skin.

I’m on methotrexate as well. That’s when my started thinning. Bummer!

I had all mine cut off when it started to fall out. Now its grown back with curls, was dead straight before. Sporting a razor cut pixie at the moment, so easy to care for :)

Glad I’m not the only one, used to have thick wavy hair, now it’s thinner and has a frizz to it . Also I get this cowlick at the back which really annoys me especially when me roots start showing. Have to do a comb over!!

I’m hoping it will get back to normal at some stage

My fine hair has thinned and is like a Brillo pad at the nape of my neck. I tried to let the colour grow out and got 4 months of growth and caved in and coloured it again. Like others I don’t wash it near as often, extra conditioning treatments and I may try folate or folic acid....just not sure which one would be best.

Well, my hair is back to how it was as a baby, thin and still fine as always but yes, with a slight curl at the scraggly ends. I am growing it out as hubby hated it so short. I just shave my face and that handles that. It surprises me how thin my eyebrows are now. Old age or pred, I don't mind. I don't wear makeup anyway anymore. Vanity is a thing of the past!
