Weighted vests!

Hi,

Last week I read a post about weighted vests being available in Aldi for a good price. I can't find the post again but I'm wondering if anyone has bought one from Aldi and if it's suitable? I found the vests in Aldi but no description, size or details of whether the weights can be taken out etc.... As I couldn't lift the box because of the weight I do need to know if they are capable of being taken out!!!

Speak to the manager - they are usually quite helpful!!!

This is the entry on the website:

Is that the one?

The fact they are called crane weighted, does it mean you need a crane to lift them!

Haha. I looked this up when the post first appeared and Crane is the brand name, Aldi is the store selling them.

Sounded a bit like it - for the packed version at least!

I notice in the description on the Aldi website it says that the vest contains 20 x 500g sand-filled pocket inserts - so you can take them out to get the weight you want.

There is a problem with those weights, in that adding as much as 500 g at a time is hard on us old folk with wonky spines. A vest which allows smaller increments is safer for those who are trying to strengthen bones to avoid or slow down osteoporosis. You can still work your way up to 20 lb or equivalent if you can/want to.

I admire anyone who can wear these weighted vests. My strength has diminished so much that my coat feels heavy.

Why are you wearing this? Strength training?

Hi, I've read on this site that weighted vests can help strengthen bones in the upper body - I have osteopenia and the steroids I take for PMR can stop the body absorbing calcium and can therefore weaken the bones. I believe a few others have found this works.

Wearing a weighted vest doesn't necessarily strengthen upper body bones but the extra weight when moving about is believed to make more of a deformation of the long bones - and that is what creates denser bones. It is also said it helps spinal bones become denser. But care is needed - weighted vests can cause upper body problems.

I would be careful adding a weighted vest to a PMR weakened body. Might do some damage. Walking is a weight bearing exercise already.
