I read a suggestion to take some pred earlier in the morning than breakfast to help with the early morning stiffness. On Friday I'd had a very stressful day which ended with getting my 93 year old mother into hospital. When I finally got home at midnight, i had some tea and toast and decided to take 1mg of my 6mg dose then and the rest with breakfast, Didn't sleep well but that may have been as much the circumstances of the day as the pred, but next morning I felt much better. No stiffness. I have continued with 1/2mg before bed for the next two days. Still no stiffness and only taking 5mg at breakfast. May be due to warmer weather but I'm feeling better than I have for a while. My rheumy told me to stay on 5.5mg until December since my last blood tests were not as good as had been. Her comment was 5.5 wasn't a bad dose to get stuck on. At the moment this is working well for me.

We often suggest splitting the dose to help with early morning symptoms - often the antiinflammatory effect doesn't last the full 24 hours and splitting the dose extends the effect.
I am going to try taking 2 at bedtime. I have been very stiff in the morning again.
