PMR and macular oedema

Hi, I am type 2 diabetic as well as having PMR. I have retinopathy which has been stable since getting my type 2 into remission. Went to eye clinic on Monday and told I now have macular oedema and need injections into my eye.The ophthalmologist was puzzled because my diabetes is controlled and shouldn't have made it worsen.

She asked if my inflammation levels had gone up and was i anaemic. So I went to see my GP and am having blood tests next week.

I am on 6mg of prednisolone and admit I am aching quite a bit.

Has anyone had any experience of this please.

Koalajane, what a great load you are carrying right now. I am really sorry to read your complex case. I am no expert at all, only that my sister has PMR. Her wonderful Specialist is treating her with such care and caution in that he is reducing her Pred ever so slowly and this seems to be working well for her. She has commenced taking her Pred at night instead of morning and this has proved to be a turnaround for her in regard to her pain. It’s made the world of difference to her. At present he has her on 7.1/2mg Mon Wed Fri and 10mg on the other 4 days. That’s how minimal is her tapering. She is also on a low dose of Methotrexate.

I would consult your Specialist. You may need to increase slightly but be guided by him.

I hope this is of some help to you and I wish you all the very best with your other conditions as well.
