I was wonder has anyone has a relapse of PMR and how was it ? I was PMR free for 7 years and the last two months I think it is back. I feel the same as I did then but no were as bad. I was wondering how long a relapse will last. I am diabetic and want to avoid Prednisone because of my sugar getting very high . I am only on Mobic 15 mg but it helps a little. I would love to hear other peoples experience on having a relapse and how long it lasted for ?

PMR
If this is a relapse it's not a good idea to ignore it in the hope that it will go away as the inflammation will build up. I can understand your reluctance to go back on Pred in view of your diabetes but only steroids will manage PMR symptoms. A call to your doctor is necessary.
I know several people who have had PMR twice as very different events with a few years between. All say the two episodes were totally different but sometimes the 2nd time was worse and sometimes the first. Same for duration too.
I wouldn't want to stay on Mobic waiting for PMR to go away - it could still be a few years. It too is not a good mix with diabetes and isn't recommended for long term use in older patients whose kidney function can be affected.
If you have problems with the diabetes with pred there are ways of improving BS control. Do you have Type 1 or Type 2?
Perhaps your doc would have your CRP and SedRate tested to see if they are high. That may give you a hint, though there are those who have PMR without an increase in those numbers. All the best
hi my husband had pmr 8 years ago it came back 2 months ago , we had to go to a different doctors as our one closed down and they are saying he got arthritis, it is definatley pmr he in so much pain about 3 hrs sleep a night seen 2 different doctors and they will not give him steroids even though he has no other health issues . they giving him naproxin an omeprazole absolute joke they have offered to send him to a arthritis specialist after covid ,has anyone got any advise on how to convince a doctor they are wrong
The likelihood of convincing a doctor they are wrong is small - unless you can find one who does agree and they convince the sceptic. That is the reason I do sometimes suggest a single private trip to a recommended rheumy. To be fair, it IS sometimes something else but their fear of pred compared with Naproxen is totally unjustified.
Thanks for the reply, i know naproxin is just adding to the pain apart from the pain with pmr he now has a bad stomach well one of the doctors said she will talk to another doctor and get back to him,so heres hoping its very frustrating when someone is in so much pain and you know what will help to relieve it but no one will let you have it.
