My question this morning is how does prednisone affect the skin besides being dry, and thin, & somewhat tender? I have a pencil size, irregular shape black spot on the back of my calf. It looks like it is blood filled, my GP wanted to remove it immediately but will see my dermatologist in a week and will let him look at it.
Good your getting in promptly. I upped my annual exam this year
thinking prednisone “makes everything grow faster”. The dermatologist seems more lax however.
Well we do bruise more easily. I had lots of bruises on my stomach once just from the kicking of a little baby while I changed him. Glad you are having it looked at professionally, I think there is sun sensitivity too.

It can cause purpurae - small purple spots due to bleeding under the surface of the skin. But they are definitely red/purple not black. There is some evidence that it can cause an increased risk of skin cancers - though I thought not melanoma (could be wrong).
I have red spots on arms and large red areas with bruising and redness on legs skin looks awful, have shown it to doctors who just say, oh steroids I expect,have given up getting answers just cover up.

Skin fragility goes with Prednisone.
I have a lot of marks of various types on my skin; take care if it is black and irregularly shaped; I have a a couple of angiomas, typically black, and other strange marks; I should take an apartment next door to my dermatologist; skin fragility comes with prednisone, especially if you have sensitive skin to begin with. ; lower legs especially; good you are going to dermatologist soon. Surely, he/she will do a biopsy.
Also I find healing takes longer from any minor bump or bruise or skin surgery. You're not alone.
I have also had a great deal of sun exposure in my life; sunblock not all that effective. Lots of squamous cell carcinomas caught early. I am fair with green eyes, but I did enjoy that time in my life under the sun.
I am blonde, blue eyed, very light skin, tried to tan when younger but always ended up burning, but I too like the sun, always feel better when out in it. For some years now I've had regular dermatologist appointments have had some basil cell and squamous cell removals, this spot I have now seemed to come suddenly, and it is much different than anything I've had before. so I'm anxious to get it looked at. Have you seen any evidence that skin cancer has a higher percentage when on prednisone? This journey is quite something, always a new twist or turn. guess we just have to plow through, but wow some days it gets tough.

Oh my goodness... my whole body looks like I've been under attack! I imagine hundreds of tiny, little, invisible "boxers," who crawl over my entire body; constantly punching, punching, punching with their tiny, rock filled Boxing Gloves! They laugh, as they leave small, bright purple, blood marks EVERYWHERE!!!! Some of them carry, sharp knives and are quick to leave small gashes, when they don't leave purple dots! It's horrible!
Found this. I think we must be even more careful with sun exposure while on pred, and maybe for a time after joining club zero? This is new info for me, I've been a bit careless this summer. 😲
