CANNOT believe. Forgot to take yesterday's prednisone.

I am on 9mg. Totally forgot yesterday's pills. I took a friend to hospital and when my alarm rang on phone I said to her, not to worry it's my medication alarm and I took it before I left. (I was certain I had) apparently I got the pill box and set it on the counter to get the water and prednisone brain led me astray....So this morning I went to take the pills (which I did) and lo and behold there they were from yesterday. At the time I had NO PAIN..felt fine. However, now that I know I missed I am feeling ache in shoulders. (of course. probably in my head) I have an 8 hour drive to Chicago tomorrow to pick up grandkids and daughter and a drive home... shall I up the dose and take maybe ? mg tonight and then regular dosage tomorrow?? ADVICE PLEASE!!.

Hi,

As you got through yesterday okay, I would just take today’s as normal and put it down to what it was - a blip! Yesterday’s gone.

However, if you have a gruelling day tomorrow, it may be wise to take tablets with you, so if you feel you are flagging during the day then take an extra mg or two if the need arises!

Thank you. I need all of you!!

The usual advice is to take a missed dose when you remember if it is soon after but not to take double the dose at the same time. See how you feel later - taking much pred later in the day might affect your sleep since you aren't used to it and that would be even worse. OTOH, taking a bit extra tomorrow morning might help the day ahead? I sometimes take a bit extra for a hard day's travel. I do hope that is 4 hours there and 4 hours back not 8 hours each way!!

thank you. yes...alas 8 hours each way. but I will break it up with a stop at friend's after 5 and on the way back we will stay part of the night in motel. Until the 3 year old and 5 year old are bouncing off the walls because it's MORNING for them!! haha

Heavens - is that the nearest airport? Makes us look positively metropolitan!

It's a big country.

No PMRpro I actually live 20 minutes from international airport. This time daughter had only tickets for her and 2 little ones as far as Chicago...long and complicated and she is traveling alone with them so I said I would come and get them and drive them home!

Ohhhh nooooo! 😱

What about taking 15 mgs to cover the big drive and then straight back to 9 mgs? I did something like that once and got away with it. Maybe it mopped up the extra inflammation. If you have a switched on doctor you could ask them. Thanks to this site I feel more clued up on the intricacies of dosing than my busy, multi tasking primary care doctor. Disclaimer.....etc. Have a lovely time with grandkids and daughter. Can your daughter share the driving? I feel nervous being driven by my children, they are fairly good drivers, maybe I just can’t believe that someone who came from me can do something grown up like driving. I don’t drive.

Thanks! haha. I LOVE to drive but will hand over the wheel to her if at all tired. Precious Cargo aboard!

I never leave the house without a 5 day supply in my purse. It just kind of lives there waiting for an emergency.

I change mine from time to time as they seem to get a bit battered even in my Meds Bag!

But I’m never without! x

Hi Yogabonnie-

I just made a 5+ hr trip last Saturday from Minneapolis to Ely, then return trip Tuesday. With a wedding to get to (in Ely), hadn’t recognized the amount of stress I’d be dealing with, in addition to travel stress. Should’ve upped my dose by 2 or 3 Prednisone those travel days, but didn’t and paid for it.

At 11:00 pm Saturday night, I was in an abnormally large amount of pain. Still stubborn about increasing dose too much from my “hard earned” 6 mg, I only took a 1/2 mg more that night. In retrospect, and in light of others’ experiences I’ve read on this site,

I Definitely should have proactively taken a much larger dose Saturday a.m. before leaving town.

Now am more achy than usual and will have to make a jump up ANYWAYS because I think I’m flaring now. When will I stop being so stubborn about upping my dose temporarily for trips etc. ?? 😫

Frustrated with myself right now!!

But good to be reminded by you and others on this site. I’m glad you didn’t pay dearly for that missed dose. Best of luck on your trip! Be prepared to jump up a few mgs, and don’t be stubborn as I was on my trip🤪

Thanks I think I will take 2.5 mg more with my dose in the morning before I leave. On another note. I LOVE ELY we go up there usually early June and late Sept. (skipped June this year) but cannot wait to be there again. Rent a cabin on Burntside.

If you take 2.5mg extra , does it not cause problems when you return to “normal”dose? I’m confused at “upping” the dose. 😱

You can increase your dose quite substantially for even a week or so and then go back to your previous dose with no need to taper.

and this response also for yogabonnie I'm going to disagree with everyone here who is suggesting you "up" your dose "just in case". Pred is a serious medication. We have enough trouble tapering as it is. And you may find, in fact probably will, that you don't need anything extra while you are on holiday, If you do feel PMR pain creeping up, then by all means respond. I was recently on a very physically taxing holiday and much to my surprise there was no increase in PMR activity, although I was very exhausted the first couple of days. I neither tapered nor increased the dose, and stayed on my dose for a few days after returning home, then restarted dead slow taper.

well. I went up 1mg. the day I left. drove 8 hours. then slept from 9pm to 3:30 (which was good since they are usually up at 7 and it was 10:30 in the morning for them) and drove back...breaking it up a lot for the kids. and I took an 1mg. as I had achy neck and shoulders. probably from driving. BUT I did not go up much and will go back to 9 the rest of the week and see how it goes. I have a feeling I will be fine. Thanks!!

That sounds reasonable to me! Well done you. 🏆

Not in my case. I upped the dose by 2 1/2 mg for a week while on family vacation. When I returned home I could not go back to 10 mg right away. I had to taper by 1/2 for a week to be comfortable.

Welcome to The I Won’t Forget Again Club! 🤪 There are many members & some are even on the 2nd Level, me included!......

Keep what you missed ‘in reserve’ & if it catches up with take the extra 5mg & see how it goes!

I’ve been initiated into that club for sure! 🤪

I’ve canoed Burntside Lake and many others around Ely for hours on end in past pre-PMR days. Beautiful area!!

On Monday canoed 45 min and swam for another 30 min in Armstrong Lake (10 miles south of Ely). Swimming felt great and helped loosen up my stiff limbs a bit. Sun and warmth were a comfort on the achy back. (Ely missed the disastrous weather and wash-outs just south and east of us). Felt bad for those caught in the storms. Lucky to be where I was. 😊

I also forgot to take a dose a few times during my pmr journey, I was, always reminded by how crappy I felt except this last time, I didn't notice a thing until the next day when I was getting the day's pred from the

pill box .

This encouraged me to go to the gym twice in a row and do two group classes.. This time the DOMS was very delayed but it did hit!

I'll never learn.. I thought the Actemra would give me unlimited spoons..
