The "Like" Dilemma!

So many good posts & replies it's difficult to find a balance with the " LIKE". I'm not on Facebook or any similar site but can see how easy it is to get hooked on this! Never one for moderation! Good job my finger isn't on the nuclear button! Eh!

It's a shame it is "like" - I use it occasionally to acknowledge I've seen and read a post and agree - not so much like it. But your photos deserve a like!!!

in reply toPMRpro

Ta. I'll stick to the photo's then! Have a nice day! Only kidding Bab.

PMRpro has said exactly what I would have.

Maybe a “read” button would be better, I like a poster or replier (not sure that’s proper English) to know I’ve read their comment, but don’t necessarily need to reply.

A read button would be great!

Yes it would, but I expect it’s all too difficult!

On some forums they do have a 'views' tally running. So each time someone clicks on a post to read it, the 'views' tally increases by one. Check out this aviation-related forum on GPS avionics:

Yes I didn’t mean it couldn’t be done per se, I know it’s possible, but like all computer programmes it’s easier to do it from the outset - it’s when you try and change things it has a habit of going to custard!

I like pretty much “Like” everything, unless I really don’t like it, and then I don’t “Like” it. However, if you post something, and I don’t like it, I may not have seen it, in which case I haven’t “Liked” it. God I’ve had way too much coffee. ☕️☕️☕️

If you read it through very slowly it almost makes sense, maybe. 😂

in reply toCT-5012

No, it does.... really! It makes perfect sense. Drink 2-3 cups of coffee and you'll see. 😳

If it's a general comment I will only like if I agree. If it's a reply to me like can mean I've read this thanks nothing more to say.

Better than some platforms like twitter which uses a 'heart' as an equivalent to a 'like' so when I read an article on say the demographics of violence and concur with it I have to put a 'heart' - which is obviously SO inappropriate !

It's all been said Pepperdoggie, the only thing to add is when someone is really down about something and you have nothing to add the 'like' button makes it feel 'do I really 'like' they're in that position - no it means I've read it and sympathise without entering into conversation, think we're all used to it now...

Love the shrub, what is it called?

in reply toTelian

It's Sedum "Aizoon". Telian. Self seeds easily in the gravel. Really stands out in the sunshine.

I consider myself the site "analyst," and I think we've officially entered the "analysis paralysis" portion of our discussion! 🤔

I "like" that Facebook has introduced a range of emoticons to express different feelings. 🙂😄😥😡😮

I use the "like" button sometimes its to agree with something - or sometimes its because I have the same issues maybe? Or just to acknowledge the issue - not that I necessarily have the answer to. Just to let the person know they are alone. If that makes any sense!!! (I expect plent of "likes" for this. ha ha - only joking!)

in reply topowerwalk

Well i think you covered all bases there powerwalk. you just got your 1st like!!
