Feels like the real deal !

Just a quick update which I trust will bring hope to those on tapering plans. Today is 24 weeks in the zero prednisolone club and I am beginning to believe I may have made it. This 5 years from GCA followed by 2 bursts of PMR and 3 tapering plans. The sun is shinning and it feels like the real deal. Finally. Good luck to others!

Yes 5 years in total. I will never forget June 2016 I had never had a health issue in my life, I was enjoying retirement at age of 64 and a sudden onset of splitting headaches, jaw pain and sensitive scalp. Good luck on your path!

That is such good news and gives us all a bit of hope. I am 6 years GCA then PMR and still struggling but I control it and don't let it control me. So happy for you!

Michael, that’s really great news. It certainly will give a boost of morale to many of us who don’t see the light at the end of the PMR tunnel.

Enjoy your pain free life and make up for lost time.

All the best. 🍀🌸

Fantastic for you. How wonderful. What was the tapering plan that worked for you at low levels? From say 2mg downwards? Not there myself yet but was at 1mg before GCA struck!

Because my first two tapering attempts resulted in PMR. I was a bit fearful on my third and in no rush to reach zero like on the first attempt! I did spin it out a bit on the lower reaches and used up every spare tablet I had from repeat prescriptions and dose variation. So I stayed on 5mg and 1mg for longer than the prescribed one month deeming it better not to waste the excess and make the descent slower adding many extra months on the plan at 1mg. Now with 24 weeks of no medications I am cautiously optimistic! Sorry to hear about your flare at 1mg I know how disappointing that must be from my own previous knock back experience. Good luck!

That’s great news DevonMichael. I was diagnosed with GCA Jan 2015 started on 60mg pred and finally tapered off in March 2018 I realised that I was very fortunate to have only been on pred for three years. Sending you lots of good wishes and know that you’re going to continue to enjoy your well earned ‘pred free’ new days 👏👏👏

You’ve cheered me up too as I thought I was 6 years into my journey but I’m actually only 5! Diagnosed March 2016. Shows how confused I am these days.

Sadly not doing as well as you currently tapering to 7mg, coming up for my 62 birthday.

Long may your success last it’s wonderful to read there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
