I have PMR and tapering g with my prednisolone. Now just on 3.5 mg daily. Second time round with pmr, and found out I have osteoporosis. Have had some spinal fractures, now healed, hence my endocrinologist starting the Forsteo. I apparently builds new bone, and is taken for 2 years. Quite a commitment, but worth it if it helps ,

All the very best with it.

Well at least you have a demonstrable reason for taking it. I hope someone comes along who has experienced it.

Hi Marigoldb,

My wife has been on Forteo since last October. Before Forteo she had 13 fractures. Since Forteo, only one fracture. All her fractures were from Prednisone. She also take Actemra to help tapering. From 60 mgs prednisone to now at 11 mgs. Forteo works. A little expensive, but better than fractures.

Stick with it,

Jim & CJ

Thankyou Jim-CJ for replying, good news that your wife has only had 1 fracture sine starting Forteo, does she do the injection am or pm? And has she had any side affects?

Apparently it’s the only med to encourage the growth of new bone. Best wishes to you both.

Hi Marigoldg, We give her injection daily at 10:00AM. It is quite easy. She has no side affects from Forteo. We thought initially that she got nausea, but the nausea was from a pain med she was on. Yes, Forteo is the only med that grows bones. It also removes older bones at the same time. For two years, it is a wise thing to do.

Take Care,

Jim & CJ
