Shingrix

I took the lead and had the first shot of Shingrix. Shingrix is the new shingles virus vaccine that is safe for people with immune compromised systems and is 99% effective. I will need to have a second booster shot 2-6 months from now. I was told my arm at the injection site would be sore for a couple of day.... well that was true and then some! My arm was sore and I believe I have what is called a “flare” with my PMR. Every muscle in my body aches. It has been hard to sleep because just trying to turn over or pull up blankets is painful. I am trying to remain at jt 4mg Prednisone so after taking that in the morning I feel better and can function but still have aches and pains in my neck and shoulders. I now know what to expect with the booster shot. I am hoping that I start to feel better tomorrow so I can make it to work.

I would be tempted to take a couple of mgs extra to get me over this. You’ve just added inflammation. You ought to be able to drop straight back down in a couple of days. Let us know how it goes for you and this new vaccine.

I think you’re right because I have been trying to power through the pain and it is a little better but I need to be better than this to make it through work tomorrow.

Feeling almost normal again after increasing just 2mg and will do that for another day until I feel level again. Thanks for the advice

I had mine last week, also had Prevnar 13 too. Mine was just a bit swollen and sore for a couple of days, and then back to normal. A warm compress helps ;o)

Friday I had the Shringrix shot, Saturday and Sunday I was in pain from head to toe. I was moving exactly like a sloth to get out of bed and trying to raise my arms to put on my robe was horrible. Monday I increased pred by 2mg and continued that today Tuesday and feeling normal again. I will go back down 2mgs and see how it goes now tomorrow.

I am at 3mg and holding.... I will try and reduce a bit but have been having PMR symptoms. I will need to go back in September for the second booster shot of Shringrix and at least I will know what to expect the next time.

My wife had the shot and it just made her shingles much worst. It has been a month since the shot now and her pain and breakouts are happening every day now not once every two weeks like before she had the shot.
