I am taking 45mg daily for Gout. It reduces the pain and swelling but has to be taken at breakfast. By 02:00 the following morning I am in agony again. Is this the max dose? Can I split the dose to extend coverage?

Prednisone dose
Hi,
This is a site for PMR and GCA, so not much experience wth Gout, but plenty with Pred!
Don't see why you can't split dose. We usually recommend 2/3rd breakfast time, and the other 1/3rd with evening meal. Any later and it may affect sleep.
I would try that first, you don't really want to increase dose unless its really necessary.
Many thanks Dorset lady. We live in the same county! I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Thanks again K
Lucky aren't we? although maybe not today, just had to rescue washing - checked it earlier drying nicely, so thought I'd do a bit on PC, next thing I knew it was soaking wet. Not a happy bunny!
Thought it was the far north of the UK that was to get rain?
P*ssing horrible here - and cold. NOT a good day to be camping...
Think it's slipped a bit then!
Not been a good day, bursitis ultra painful and every time I put something down it seems to have a life of its own and ends up on the floor! Just when you don't want to bend down!
I might have to give in to a bit of dark chocolate and a sloppy film to get me through the rest of the day! Hey ho!
Freya,

Oh Dear...........not again, I must look for Hel.........
Keep escaping as Joan who is 88 today and having a 'tea' party, Courtesy of M&S and her fiendish lady friends will arrive, 'lashed up to the nines'.
I need to take a deep breath, I did wait till this morning to tell her otherwise I would have been like a stuck record. But her big smile is worth all of it.
Happy day and rest tomorrow.........
Happy birthday Joan from David and Eileen xxxxx
I showed this to Joan and being 88 on the 11th, she was thrilled to see a post for her. Thank you Eileen and David..........you can imagine her excitement and I have had to bookmark it so her 3 'still standing friends' were dragged to the computer, before they could sit down to their 'tea party'.
Mind, without Margaret, Lynne and Catherine, I could not have coped with one Dementia, One in a Wheelchair, one with a walking stick and one perfectly healthy............it was a hoot.
Thank you once again.............
