Hoping you all can shed some light...since April I've noticed significant hair loss. I am horrified! I've always had thin hair and now am afraid I'll need a wig soon?!!
In the beginning of April I was on 17.5 mg prednisone. I am now down to 7.5 mg.
When / if does this hair loss stop?
Thank you.

I have found Chia seeds are really good for hair loss. My hair has really thickened up and I have lots of new hair growing. I sprinkle it on breakfast food and on salads anything really. I read you can have a tablespn a day. My husband is getting it and has a ggod head of hair. Hope this helps. 👍🙂
Very distressing I know. Yes I noticed hair loss too around 7 mgs - hairbrush full of hairs all the time. Very upsetting. However I am now on 4.5mgs and lots of baby hair is growing around my temples snd my hair looks so much better now. I also started taking biotin tablets which my daughter swears by and think that may have helped too. It will grow back in!
I've also noticed hair loss, but when I mentioned it to my hairdresser, she says she can see new growth at the base, so not to worry. I think hair grows about half an inch a month, so it does take time, but I hope it soon does for you.
Hi - I'm on 5mg and my hair loss has returned to normal. On a higher dose of pred i would lose hair each day equal in size to a tennis ball. Don't despair - it will stop when your Pred goes down.
Don't bother with any of the thickening/ hair loss treatments they don't do a thing - they're expensive.
Hi Bonnig, are you taking Methotrexate as that seems to make hair loss even worse? The steroids had a devastating affect on my hair I looked like a scarecrow with hay for hair.
Talk to your GP about Folic Acid. It is often used when people are having chemo etc to combat hair loss. Do not buy it over the counter until you have discussed it with your medic and the pharmacist.
If it is PMR you have and April was when you were diagnosed it could be the illness itself. Being ill can have a very damaging effect on hair and it often doesn't show for a few months - which is why it doesn't occur to you when it happens.
I never had hair loss all the time on them, but but but my facial hair is getting more !!! So have to pluck and shave lol lol don't want to get a moustache or beard !!! Anyone else got this ????
I had a beautiful black beard in the 9 months I was on Medrol (methyl prednisolone) - than goodness for my Braun epilator!! Had had no problems with prednisolone nor now with prednisone. Got the odd one to pluck - but that comes with age anyway.
Strangely most of my body hair has gone!!! Haven't had to shave legs or underarms for months! This part of hair loss I welcome!!!! It's all very odd this PMR adventure!
I've had it twice in the 5 years I've had PMR. The 2nd time my Dr. And hair dresser told me to start taking Biotin. It does help, I'm still taking it everyday. Stress will cause hair loss, it was for me, and then stress effects PMR which makes you sicker yet. Once your hair stops coming out, it takes 3 months for it to start growing again, so devastating!!!! I bought hair pieces, or a wig for the time being! You will get through this💕💕💕
Also lost lots of hair...was wearing a beautiful wig, but much rather have own hair. I took Biotin & folic acid together. I think I started to lose it at 15mg and pretty much stopped around 10mg or just below. Biotin & folic acid I feel helped. also when adrenal glands start to kick in around 7, you should see difference. I am on 1mg and my hair is very thick again. Hang n there
Just saw this thread and thought i should report that my hair is growing back!! I complained last fall that I didn't think I'd get low enough on Pred, or well enough with the PMR before needing a wig. Surprise me! It is definitely getting thicker. I no longer dread washing or blow drying my hair, and the bathroom floor doesn't look like a forest. I starting taking a hair/skin/nails supplement every other day about two months ago, but I think the hair loss had already slowed before then. The supplement might also may be helping too as my nails are much stronger and my skin isn't so easy to puncture.
So hard to know what has turned this around. I'm now on 7mg heading to 6, fingers crossed.
That was the first positive sign for me, but I actually thought there was less on the floor because I had less on my head to lose. Lol.
I also started taking higher doses of biotin daily in a preparation called Hair Skin and Nails. I've seen several vitamin companies with similar formulations.
All three have improved. My finger nails are much much stronger. My skin isn't a prone to bleed. And my hair is a spikey mess of new and old growth that I find myself chuckling about. Real bride of Frankenstein look. But hey, it's hair.
