Does Pred Affect the Eyes

Hi PMR Community

I was diagnosed with PMR over 2months ago and am currently on 10mg.

Right now I am sat in Moorfields A&E as both my eyes are swollen, painful and infected. My right eye has detached retina from 2009.

My question is,

Is this eye infection possibly linked to PMR?

Many thanks

If it is an infection I wouldn't have thought so. Though I had eye problems with PMR that left them bright red and very sore, I couldn't bear sunlight either. I don't think it was due to infection though.

Do let us know what Moorfields say - if they don't know, no-one will! Good luck. Not a good way to spend Saturday afternoon though!

May just be coincidence - but your are right place to find out. Hope it's nothing to worry about.

Hi Pincus, at least they will rule out GCA which we all fear when we have PMR ( well I do). I certainly experience eye strain and sensitivity to light as a really horrible PMR symptom, an almost eye bursting sensation. Tests come back clear.Sometimes I have had very puffy swollen eyes - solved by a microwaveable velvet eye mask and gentle massage. Small infections like styes seem more troublesome whilst taking an immunosuppressive drug like Pred. You're in the best place. Let us know the outcome even if they don't know, which happens.😒

Sorry for a late reply am giving my eyes complete rest .

Was prescribed flurbiprrofen and more Omeprazole and to bath my eyes.

Of recent on a good day I have begun to pick up the paintbrush as such I have over done it. I find this all so stressful and feel so down beaten by PMR .

I understand my condition yet it is so disabling along with the fact I need a total knee replacement and suffer from bi lateral carpal tunnel and have sensorineural hearing loss.

Am just off to the GP now.

I am very lucky and happy it was not GCA

I am happy for you that at least GCA has receded as a worry. What kind of painting do you do?
