GCA and swollen discs behind eyes

For the last 12 months my eye specialist has been treating me for swollen disc behind right eye, they found the preds did not help so while I was tapering down from 30mg they added 150mg azaithiaprine as well. I was on 10mg preds last week when saw my eye doc and it turns out the swelling has now happened in left eye!!! The right eye swelling has reduced significantly tho

So am back on 60mg preds plus 150mg azaithiaprine

Not happy but obv do t want to lose sight

Any one else with similar experience??

Eyesight slightly affected due to swelling but no headach or pain....am booked into seeing my rheumatologist a week tomorrow by the way

Is this due to GCA? There are other causes of the optic disc being swollen.

They can’t agree apparently but my optic consultant is willing to let my rheumatologist have the say in diagnosis

Visit to my rheumy resulted in him being rather miffed at the eye hosp as obv he does not have access to the eye scans to understand fully what they mean. He has said to remain on the 60mg of pred plus upped my azathioprine to 200mg!! He is writing to them in the strongest terms he said....It is utterly ridiculous that am being swung between 2 consultants, in the mean time am having to increase my intake of Insultard to combat the rise in my blood sugars!

I guess all I can do then, is take the meds, endure the tapering again and manage as best one can...

Hopefully when I see the eye consultant after Easter I may have more info...
