Tapered to 1 MG. and counting...

I am a week or so away from reaching a taper to 1 mg. of Prednisone. I will have had PMR for 4 years by August. I have had to reduce by .25 for the past several tapers, as trying to go down by .50 resulted in a flare about a year ago. I was wondering if I could dare to try .50 now that I am so close to the end. Would appreciate hearing another person's experience when getting to this stage. My CRP test was normal.

Hi,

It's entirely up to you, but if you've managed successfully by reducing by 0.25 a time why rock the boat now. You may be perfectly okay, but no point in rushing things when you are so close.

Good luck.

Wonderful, I wish you the best , I'm still at 8/8and a halve, I do hope it's the end of it for you.x

You've done so well, so I'd stick to the 0.25 drop, you're almost there so it really is dead slow then stop!

Good Luck 🍀

Enjoyed your reply, Sheffield jane The nautical terms were right on for where I am located.

Good to hear your good news. Do you have .25 tablets prescribed or do you cut a 1mg. I find it difficult to cut a 5mg in half accurately even with a pill cutter.

Hello margiebell4: I am cutting a 1mg. tablet. Have to admit, it is not always right on. Another reason to wish to be finished. But there are worse things in life, eh?

So are you cutting a 1mg into 4? I am supposed to be reducing by 1mg per month, I am struggling and constantly fluctuating between 5mg 4mg and 3mg. I could not bear to be cutting tablets into pieces!!

Yes, to your question, Suzib. I have been coming down by .25 for a year or more. I use a pill cutter, and it isn't so bad.

How about slowing down and using this approach? Yoyoing over 3 dses is the worst thing you can do when trying to taper.

Thanks for the link, PMR Pro. That is the reduction plan that I have been using all along - no yo-yoing. Can't go any slower!
