I am down to 6mg pred and now experiencing hair loss. Can anyone out there calm me down and tell me it will grow back in once I am off the steroids? It really is awful seeing so much hair in the brush and loose hair all over my hands when shampooing.

Hi kezzybabes,
Yes it will grow back!
In the meantime although it is distressing, there's no point in getting stressed about it- that will just make your PMR worse, and won't do a lot for your hair growth!
Talk to your hairdresser, if he/she is any good they will be able to advise you on how best to deal with it.
Make good use of scarves, if you look on web, there are suggestions of how to use then to disguise thinning hair, and if it gets really bad then consider a wig, there are some good ones about nowadays.
But most of all, stop worrying!
Do you have long hair? My hairdresser advised me to wash my hair only twice a week, be very gentle and use a wide toothed comb to untangle it. You can rinse it and condition it the rest of the time, but no need to shampoo. Also be very gentle when combing, don't brush. I had thick hair and now it's pretty thin but no one can notice it yet.
No shampoo? Ok I'll give it a try! I've got long hair and it's coloured blonde so wonder if the bleach causes problems too ...
I'm losing hair, but my hairdresser had a good look through my roots and said she could see evidence of new growth, so get yours to have a look too. It was reassuring for me to hear that and helped to stop me worrying about yet another thing!
Try yeast tablets.
oh that's a new one!
Talk to your medics about 'Folic Acid' or go to your nearest Maggie's Centre
People on chemo often suffer hair loss and people diagnosed with Late Onset Arthritis (lora) and treated with Methotextrate are also given Folic Acid.
BUT TALK TO YOUR GP AND PHARMACIST - COMPATIBILITY.
