I am currently taking 25mg of prednisone having tapered from 50mg since September 16. High dose as suspected GCA. Had an eye Pressure test at the opticians, it was raised and the repeat was also raised. Could this be a GCA or steroid related or something else?

Eye pressure
One of the possible side effects of prednisone is increased ocular pressure. If it becomes high enough you must be prescribed drops to prevent glaucoma-type damage. This pressure should go back to normal as your pred dose is reduced.
Thank you for a reassuring reply.
I have had glaucoma for some years now spotted by my very efficient optician. Received lazer treatment which helped bring the pressure down initially . Now on eye drops nightly and regular checkups at the hospital. Do not neglect eyes .. They are too precious.
Pred can lead to raised eye pressures and it is something that should be checked for every year. They usually don't do anything until it gets to a certain level - and then they use drops the same as they do for glaucoma.
