swollen painful eye with blurred vision

I'm probably just stressing but I have this swollen and painfiul eye, no discharge, no other classic GCA symptoms,i.e. headache, temporal lobe pain, raised veins or scalp tenderness. As I have recently been diagnosed with PMR acutely aware that I could develop GCA, had a horrible stressful time recently which is ongoing and covid positive atm (over it in days really). Using an eyewash hoping it helps. Any advice welcome , thank you all again, I'm certainly getting some good use from this forum.

I think if I were you I might call 111 and ask for advice from an OOH doctor. Even if it isn't GCA there are other eye conditions that it could be, Is it the eye itself or just the eyelid?

Both, swollen eyelid, brow, under eye, slightly red.

Also checked by pharmacist who felt it wasn't an infection as no discharge.

Depends where the infection is but it could be inflammation rather than infection and be equally serious. It is the blurry vision that concerns me and why I would seek medical advice sooner rather than later.

My husband had an infection that put his eye at risk and there was no discharge at all. Also, it may not be an infective cause but is still needing prompt treatment. Do get advice.

Please get your eyes checked by a optometrist. I had shingles in my eye which was missed by the hospital A&E. I went to my optician as my sight was being affected. He sent me to another hospital who diagnosed the shingles virus. Luckily I got treatment and my sight was ok apart from one tiny area if scarring on my cornea. Hope you get over the COVID soon.

So true. I went to A&E and they recommended an optician as they didn’t have the necessary equipment!!

You are amazing. I had no idea such a service existed - and it’s six miles away!! Very useful in an emergency. Thank you! You are a beautiful spider in the centre of a web of knowledge - with all those strands jingling and shining! (am now in darkened room knocked out by my own metaphor 😂)

Haha!

We've mentioned it quite often on the forum. The service is to relieve the hospital EDs and they have equipment and trained staff who are far better able to do the basic testing and treat or refer appropriately/

Update, seen GP, referral to urgent eye clinic, may not materialise before the weekend apparently! If it fets worse to go to Moorfields in London and wait??

No, GP felt he couldn't hazard a guess without a proper eye exam. He was aware of GCA and offered that if there was no headache it probably wasn't. I did remind him of the other symptoms, (none of which I have) but also advised that sometimes it does not have a classic presentation. Thought I'd do my bit for the PMR/GCA community whilst there , thanks to this forum which has tooled mw up for the job!

Yes brilliant, waiting for GP to get back to me following e consult. It's all so slow. I see that I have an emergency centre near to me and will try to see them tomorrow.
