Awoke this morning feeling absolutely dreadful, ears feel like there's rocks crashing around inside, head pounding, still no voice and my throat feeling raw with coughing. So, I went to the surgery this morning and my own GP happened to be there, he gave me a thorough examination, I've got a temperature but thankfully chest is clear, problem seems to be all in my throat which is good. He told me to keep up with the steam and hot drinks that I've been having, also to take paracetamol which I did last night and this morning, and as its a long weekend he gave me a prescription for antibiotics just incase I should need them, hopefully, fingers crossed I won't. I thought that those of you that are following me would like to know the latest.
Happy New Year to all, and best wishes for as painless 2017 as is possible.

Snap - down to the "long weekend" problem! Only reason I went, I do complain about the people who go because they sneezed once! But the inhaler stuff she gave me has already soothed the knives in the throat sensation (preferred the ice cream I tried for the same purpose yesterday and it did do the job!) - we'll wait and see how the cough progresses!
Sandy, don't be afraid to resort to the antibiotics if you feel the need. I hate taking medication of any sort so I tried to battle throat and chest infections a couple of weeks ago but the throat in particular won the battle and the relief once on the antibiotics was well worth it.
I hope you and everyone else battling infections, especially on top of PMR and/or GCA, get better soon, and are able to enjoy the New Year weekend and continue healthily through 2017.
Get well soon to both of you. Seems to be the year for bad colds and chest infections. Am just recovering from bad cold over Christmas, certainly the hot drinks with lemon and honey and the inhaling have helped. Good too that you have antibiotics to hand if need be Sandybo. Best wishes for a healthier 2017
I spent the end of November beginning of December with a sinus and ear infection. I was tired due to getting ready for the holidays and craziness/stress at work. One thing I thought I'd mention is that I battled with fatigue and weepiness., feeling quite poorly. Similar to when I reduced prednisone too fast. It took longer than I expected to ease. I asked here if it could have been the 2 rounds of antibiotics but was told that it was from the infection. I'd try the antibiotics and not let the germs take hold (like I did). Rest and lots of tea with honey and lemon. Feel better!
Thank you TooSore, I've taken on board what you said about the antibiotics, I haven't got them yet, but have had a really restful day today and am hoping for the same tomorrow, so on Monday I will review the situation.
Happy New Year to you and all who have replied to me, thank you.
