Hi Sheila,

Not sure what level of Pred you are on, or how things have been - long time since you posted last.

Hair loss could be a side effect of Pred - some seem to suffer that, others the opposite! But it could also be stress, or a myriad of things.

I would be slightly more worried about the tingling scalp, that could be a sign of GCA or maybe neuralgia - have you been in a draught or done anything that could have brought it on?

Think you need to monitor things for a few days, and obviously if you get any other head or eye problems then straight to doctor.

It's difficult to say much as I don't know anything about what has happened in the year since you last posted about excessive pain and Celtic suggested it might not be "just" PMR - which was obviously what your doctor was treating you for.

However, scalp pain is a typical symptom of GCA and GCA can develop at any time, not just in the first few weeks after diagnosis. If you have GCA that is affecting the blood supply to the scalp then that could cause the scalp tingling you describe - and potentially also hair to fall out more than usual. However - it's autumn, I don't know about anyone else but I lose loads of hair at this time of year!

I have that quite regularly. At the beginning I worried a lot about it because of g.c.a. but Now I don't worry about it any more. My hair is thinner than it was but has stabilized.

Unless you got severe pain on the scalp and sides of your head I would not worry too much or you worry yourself sick.

That is normal Christine, it can be the time of the year when also animals change their hair coat, it effects people too, we just don't think of it. Also when one gets older most peoples hair becomes a little less and usually stops falling out after a while.

I had a huge head of hair and now I have about 1 third of it left and people still envy me for my hair. You will be right. If you your hair should fall out in patches that might have some medical reasons.

My hair gets thinner in the back of my head as I can only sleep on my back . I might have to wear a little scull cap one day.

It is normal to loose hair every day and some medication causes it too, but so does worrying. My best wishes are with you. xx
