DSNS - please tell me what this is someone? I am new !
Recently been diagnosed with PMR snd put on 15mg pred and after a month told to start reducing to 12.5. That was 3 days ago. Not sure if morning pain and stiffness due to over zealous gardening or reduction. But people here talk about this DSNS way of reducing. Please share!

The DSNS method means Dead slow and nearly Stop. If you look at the right hand side of the PMRGCA where your letter appears, under 'related posts + DSNS method of Tapering Pred' you will see the way it works.
I found that dropping from 15 mg to 12.5 mg was too much for me so I had to go slower. The recommended drop is no more than 10% of your current dose. This has worked for me.
Good luck on your journey but you will get lots of helpful advice on this site.
Hope the DSNS programme suits you. At first glance it may seem a long time to get from one dose to the next, especially if it's only 1mg )or even 0.5mg steps when you get into single figures). But it's much better for your body, it usually doesn't notice the decrease, whereas if you drop doses overnight then you most likely will get withdrawal symptoms. Some lucky people don't, but lots do!
Most people can continue with this type of reduction continuously - so as soon as you get to the new dose, then you can start the next one, presuming everything is ok.
You may be lucky and find you don't need to go as slow as described, so you can always adapt it to suit yourself, but in this game, slow is good!
Morning Patricia . Im experiencing exactly same as you . Diagnose PMR late July and began the 3 x 5 mg tabs 5 weeks , then reduced too 12.5.. now 2 weeks . Past week back to in pain getting up out of bed.. Back , arms, buttocks .. I feel its the drop rather than anything Ive done... Will be calling the GP Monday to discuss this, hoping she put it back up slightly and bring me down 1mg at a time... Thank goodness for this page where we can learn from others...
