Although you suspected a relapse of GCA, it's still a nasty shock when it's confirmed and you find yourself back on steroids, Olive. However, you've got back in quickly with the treatment so hopefully the relatively low dose will nip things in the bud. Unfortunately, it seems that those who manage to get off steroids as quickly as you did are often more at risk of a relapse, but I'm so sorry to hear that this has happened to you. Our emotions can be all over the place due to both the inflammation and the treatment, so not unusual for you to feel so down, plus you will be feeling so frustrated when you thought you'd kicked GCA into touch. Hopefully, once the steroids have got complete control over the inflammation you will start to feel much brighter - chin up and get well soon.

As Celtic says - the whole lot together will really have shaken you and add in the pred and your emotions will be all over the place. Then add in the time of year and it's no wonder you are tearful. When I got handed an extra dx of atrial fibrillation I was a mess for the next few months and burst into tears just looking at the TV - and that really is NOT me at all! It will get better - but you are perfectly justified in feeling hard done by for the moment. Lots of rest - and let someone else do the heavy stuff.

And if no-one else gets you one - get a "Get well soon" card to put amongst the seasonal stuff so everyone can see you have a good excuse for looking after yourself.

I started telling my physiotherapist something quite ordinary yesterday (having forgotten to take my pred at usual time about two hours earlier) and realized I was weeping, even though I didn't feel like I needed to weep. It was a physical necessity, not really emotional at all, so whenever there is something that really is affecting the emotions it is nearly impossible not to spill tears. They are good for you - apparently we release toxins in our tears! But I hope you are feeling better soon. It seems to take a while to re-establish equilibrium after we get these nasty blows. I wish I could learn to roll with the punches like some seem able to do, but I always need days (or weeks or even months) to get back on an even keel. Sorry about the mixed metaphors.

It's hard to keep cheerful when things keep raining on your parade. That's why this site is great. You can let it all out and we all understand. This too shall pass. Stay strong.

I am Joy-bells from New Zealand and have had pmr for 18 months. Down to 3 1/2 g prednisone. Now only have pmr in my shoulders. I felt down until I was given alkaline hydrogenated water. My brother had bought echo hydrogen water machine from America and supplied me with the water. The Machine is expensive but we now have our own as the change in me mentally was huge. I have never had a down day since. I have heard that an Alkaline body is a healthy body. I also craved butter (was eating Marg.) when I first was diagnosed, I try to have protein at each meal, not so much red meat.

Like a lot of you I had not heard of PMR or GCA. Thank you all who have shared as I have found everything written very helpful. I mentioned this group to my Dr., and he was happy for me to reduce slowly how suggested from this forum.

Hope you feel better soon Olive .

Tell me more about alkaline water? Why would it be helpful? Couldn't you just add a tad of soda to neutralize acidity?

Hi Heron NS, --- I wouldn't use Baking Soda because of the sodium and I do have lemon juice in water especially if we are at a restaurant and there is a slice of lemon on the plate I always squeese it and put the rind and all into a glass of water. However adding lemon to water has never done what the Echo (brand) - hydrogen- enriched Ionized water has done for me. There is a lot on the internet for and against it-- too much for me to write here. I suggest you study it on line. There are 4 levels starting at level one which you have for one week then onto level two till level 4. I find level three best for me. It is advised to have tap water for taking med.. And for drinking during bed time . --

I can only share what a difference this H-Ionized water has made to my health.

On another post Thyroxine is mentioned for thyroid. I use NZ 'Valere Pepper Kelp.' A NZ Dr. Was drying this on family vacation, for personal use when asked to manufacture it for the public. You can also read and order on line. I was getting a fat neck but that has gone after using the kelp.

I used to get headaches (especially travelling) but increased my water intake and can't remember when I last had a headache.

I hope all this may help as when you find something good you don't want to keep it to yourself.

Just wanted to add our alkaline water is very good for eye sight as I suffered from glare when driving on the roads and wore dark glasses but since having the A water I don't need the dark glasses-- although I still wear as a precaution.

Can I suggest that you all test your drinking water to see where it is on the acid - alkaline scale. You should be able to get testers from the chemist. I got a testing kit with my machine.

Hope this may help.

Wish you all the best for Christmas.

I can be almost certain that you haven't been told how to take Thyroxene.

It is essential that it is taken completely alone on an empty stomach with just a couple of sips of water to help it down, first thing in the morning and then nothing else for an hour. After which, the day is yours, as long as you take your Pred after you have eaten a good breakfast to buffer your tum.

Bursting into tears is a typical reaction to insufficient Thyroxine in the system, but also remember that any change in dosage will take several weeks before it really works, so no miracle cures.

If you are taking it the right way but are still feeling teary after 4 - 6 week, then you need a bit mire, so ask your Doc to put you on 75mcg and the same rules apply.

All the best and wipe those tears, you are normal.

I have been on Thyroxene since 2003 and have only got my dosage right in the past 9 months ! Because nobody tells you anything.
