Pred head?

So our furniture moved into the uninhabitable condo on Friday, which reading this forum I am now reminded was "Black Friday" a modern ritual of overindulgent spending creeping around the world, apparently, but at the time completely escaped me. The following day our son's furniture came into the house he now owns and where we are now all living. On Monday, tomorrow, wiring upgrades are to start in the house. Eek. And this evening I came on line to find an e-card from hubby wishing me a happy anniversary. I had completely forgotten, had no idea what date it was all day, sometimes lately even forgetting the day of the week. I have never forgotten before. We have been married for 51 years, can you believe it? Mind you, I was a mere child at the time - in those days a prospective groom had to ask permission of the parent or guardian of the prospective bride if she was under 21 which my father reluctantly gave. He said he thought if he didn't we'd just drive to the neighbouring province of New Brunswick where you could marry without parental say so at 18. Although I don't think we knew that, haha!

Oh and by the way I am in pain, sciatica I guess. Pain all down the leg. I literally have to pull myself up the stairs sometimes, and other times it's fine. Wakes me up at night too, which I don't need at the best of times, certainly not now. I hope my magic physiotherapist can sort me out later this week.

How wonderful! 51 years! I am very happy for you!

I always say the first 100 years are the best!

HeronNS from a fellow Canadian, I have the cure for that sciatica pain. Effective

in minutes. An immediate solution until you can get a prescription from your

doc for a stronger cream. Use Voltaren Extra strength(2%)....get it at a Pharmacy or WalMart.

The key is to apply a dab at the base of your spine to reduce the nerve inflammation.

The sciatica nerve comes out at the base and down the legs. The good stuff which is 10 times the strength of Voltaren is prescribed "Diclo 10% in Plo Compound". Doctors can also add a "muscle relaxer to this compound and even a numbing agent.

I have lived a life of not being able to take ASA or Codeine by mouth. This is it in a cream and is a life saver. Also used for the bone on bone knees and across the lower back for the crushed discs. The only reason I am walking.

But clear it with your doc as it is a drug entering your body and counts as an interactor

with anything else you are taking.

I wonder if this works for spinal stenosis? It is inflammation in my back. Your thoughts please. Thanks doc! Send me a bill!

Sandy

I do not know but it is like instead of taking a pain killer by mouth, it is in a cream and applied on the inflamed joint or muscle. You have to be careful on the amount you use and treat it with a limit , But well worth it.. Also use it on my shoulders and muscles when my TMD flares. My doc has no problem with me using it every day if needed. As my pred dose has come down and the arthritis pain appears I had to find something!

I learned about the fact you can have a muscle relaxant added and even the numbing agent from a fellow sufferer I met at a department store. She filled me in as that is what she uses . So I just have to pass it on. It works fast and can last a long time.

I hope it can be of use to you.

Merry Christmas.

Congratulations on 51 years of marriage years of marriage. ( that’s just how it feels) We’re behind you on 32 years. I get forgetful when life is stressful. Black Friday was worth missing. No real bargains. Our re-wire was a very satisfactory thing that I organised with my severance pay upon retirement. I have a dread of fire. Let us know when you are finally in your Condo!

51 years....wow! Congrats! I admire all that you’ve been able to do over these past months, and it’s understandable that with all the balls in the air, something is bound to get dropped. Hope things go smoothly moving forward and your physiotherapist works their magic.

Also a child bride 1967 - unfortunately we only got to 46 years before he sloped off to another place 😇.

When asked why we had a long and successful marriage he always answered “trust and understanding” -

“she doesn’t trust me and I don’t understand her!”

Still it worked- congratulations on reaching 51 years. 🌷

Happy 51st Wedding Anniversary 💕🥂🌺

I think we only have so much room in our heads especially when we’re on Pred, you’re in House Mode & unfortunately everything else passes us by!

Sorry about your leg, hope Physio helps.

Best Wishes

Congrats on 51 years! We are 50 &1/2, so just behind you. Secret for us of longevity..........we are best friends first and to the last........prefer each other’s company to any other person!

We married with my dads consent a few days after my 21st....still a child in UK law at the time. We went to list the wedding at the registry, official said you are under 21.... but I will be 21 when we marry......no, need a letter from your father giving consent......of course, he jokingly was going to refuse till mom pointed out all the wasted money!! What a different age. We were still innocents and as recent graduates, not a penny to our names. We borrowed month one housekeeping money from my dad as we had to wait for our first salaries. Fortunately, the company we both worked for had chosen a flat for us and prepaid month 1 rent.....grotty it was too! We bought our first home in 6 months with a deposit borrowed from my grandma and a mortgage of £20 per month.

Keep resting as house chaos swarms around you.

All the best Valerie

Big congrats!! Don't be hard on yourself for forgetting - just preoccupied with trying to survive the days. I know the feeling. I've forgotten stuff that would always be in front of my mind. I hate it. I panic now in case i've forgotten important stuff!!

Happy anniversary. You are not alone, we regularly forget ours! We are not ones to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and often realise the next week that we have missed it again. We're at 45 years now so a lot to forget! As Valnvaughan says, it helps to be best friends.

Once you have your furniture in it will begin to feel more like home all you need now is water.

Happy Anniversary 🌸! I can see where life is a bit overwhelming right now. Just when I think my pred head is better I prove myself wrong! You know the home improvement mantra... It will be nice when it's done. 😊

Every sympathy with sciatica I’m just about recovered from a three month battle with mine, slept for most of last night just hope that continues. Fifty three years for us but we usually manage to forget it. Can also sympathise with the move problems we moved quite a lot as OH worked for the railway. Managed to miss Black Friday but daughter, d-i-l and teenage granddaughter arrived Saturday morning to take me for some “gentle” shopping HA. 🙄 We did have a lovely relaxed lunch. 😁

The only way is up now! I'm behind you at 45 years too - 1973/74 must have been very busy with baby boomers getting married ;-)

You'll catch up once the painting is done - and pop a bottle of bubbly!

Today two very nice electricians are crawling all over the house cutting holes in the walls. Meanwhile hubby has escaped to work. And son and I have been removing more stuff from the house - things to the condo and more things to the charity shop. And wishing today were garbage pick up instead of Thursday. Our cats seem to be adapting to the constant changes and upheaval after a very traumatic couple of days!

Many congratulations Heron! Think you had enough to think about at the time!! This year for us is 49 years so behind you! Hope the sciatica gets better. I see. To have it on and off and it is sooo painful.

Actually much better today, thank you! Of course I haven't had to do as much heavy lifting the last couple of days so maybe things are springing back into place!

Congratulations to you and your man on your 51st anniversary Heron. 🌹🌹

I guess a majority of we folk on the forum are about the same age and those of us who are married are reaching marriage milestones. Hubby and I are 46+ years into ours. Sadly, I don't think the next generation will be as determined to remain committed in their relationships.

Please take care with all you're doing. Don't forget to pace, pace, and pace some more. I hope things go smoothly with all the renovations and you're sitting back and relaxing soon.

HeronNS in reply tonuigini

Thank you Nuigini. Reno stuff is progressing. I think it really lit a fire under the contractor when our furniture did indeed appear in the condo as threatened. Since then then some minor carpentry and painting has happened. Heat pump scheduled for installation on Monday-Tuesday, floors in bathrooms (which will have their respective tub and shower stall by then) and kitchen next Wednesday. And major appliances which have been awaiting delivery for days now will have to be stored for another week, probably triggering a small extra charge, will go in as soon as the floor is finished. Then we can start to unpack while we wait for kitchen sink and counter, and bathroom toilets and basins. And hopefully the electrical work and subsequent repair will have come to a satisfactory conclusion in the old house where we, especially hubby, still have mounds of detritus to sort through.

I haven't actually had time to be sick, but I have had quite bad sciatica from time to time the past couple of weeks. My magic physiotherapist tells me she will sort that out! But I'm actually at that stage in a taper when I think PMR must be in remission and attempt a new reduction, only to find out a few weeks later that I was mistaken.... I think this time it would be sensible to wait until we are through at least one more week and can see the final stages approaching because there are always very stress-inducing glitches and I'm sure we haven't seen the last of them.
