Reducing if you went straight from 12.5 to 10 could be causing the pain - that is a 20% reduction at one go, way over the recommended 10% for drops. 1mg at a time or spreading it over a few weeks is much better in that context so the body isn't having to readjust as much.
The stye isn't really something you'd associate with reducing the pred dose - are you sure it's a stye rather than blepharitis. Blepharitis and the associated problems (dry eye and rosacea) do tend to go along with autoimmune disorders and taking pred. This article explains it:
