Lower your BP with blueberries?

“Eating the equivalent of 100 grams of blueberries for 4 weeks, twice a day is associated with systolic blood pressure lowering that is equivalent to the effect of BP-lowering medications, new research suggests.

Investigators believe anthocyanins, compounds with antioxidant effects and the pigments that give red, purple, and blue plants their color, are responsible for this beneficial effect on the vascular system, improving endothelial function in as little as 2 weeks.”

This is the sort of advice I like. It's great to eat something delicious and at the same time know it's doing you nothing but good.

I haven’t had a blueberry since Theo went to Australia. We used to have them all the time. Thanks for the post, added to the shopping list.

Frozen are cheaper than supermarkets - not quite as nice as fresh but just the same in smoothies etc.

You'd have to take out a mortgage here!!!

Blueberries are really easy to grow, I have two different varieties in pots on the patio, erricatious compost, water with rain water, collect when berries come off with a slight touch, freeze well, crop best after a harsh winter.

I planted one when we lived in France .....it just disappeared. Obviously not a Francophile!

Probably wrong soil, needs to be at least slightly acidic.

Blueberry bushes popped up on our land when we lived in New Brunswick after a fire broke out and burned part of our lot. Seems they like that type of soil.

I eat them at least once a day, made into a compote with raspberries, on top of my plain, full fat yogurt. I buy bags of frozen Organic berries, simmmer on stove with a tablespoon of maple syrup and thickened with low-sugar orange juice and corn starch. One batch lasts all week. Also very good in smoothies. Yum!

When they are in season here I either pick and buy, or buy fresh from the local old order Mennonite community that don’t use any pesticides.

Yes according to the research above. However I ate them just once a day, a good handful, maybe 100g each morning with benefit to my BP.

More about anthocyanins and RED WINE 😉 as well 👍🏼

old.iss.it/publ/anna/2007/4...

“Anthocyanins are responsible for most of the red, blue, and purple colors of fruits, vegetables, flow- ers, and other plant tissues or products. They are particularly abundant in berries and other fruits with red, blue, or purple color, and in red wines” 🥂

Vasodilation, reduced platelet coagulation and increased levels of circulating HDL cholesterol....it’s all good 😀

About 20 years ago (hard to believe) my husband and I bought some property with 2 acres of high-bush blueberry bushes on it. Little did we know...those blueberries (and eventually blueberry wine) would keep us so busy! So many people swore by their health properties and would order enough to be able to eat them every day. One lady used to order 125 pounds and make juice to drink each day. We sold that home in 2016 and scaled-down. It is picking season now in Indiana and my husband picks about 6 pounds each week so we can have some every day......good stuff~!! Blues and yogurt are great each day, sometimes I do half frozen and half fresh.💖💖
