Does anyone take extra Vitamin D (as well as the calcichew) and magnesium, If so how much Wendy
Hello Wendy
The answer to your Vit D question is to find out through a simple blood test whether or not you are deficient and are in need of a supplement. Many of us have been tested and found to be below the normal range. I requested a Vit D blood test which came back with a reading of 36. I was then prescribed a 3-month course of high dose Vit D3 (Colecalciferol) which increased my levels to 89 - normal is considered to be somewhere between 75 and 150/200 depending on your area Trust. Hope that helps, and it will be interesting to hear your results if you do get tested.
I can't remember my results but I was well below normal. I'm just about to begin my winter supplement of 2000iu for 6 weeks then 1000iu for 6 weeks then another 6 weeks taking 1000iu every other day. It's fairly cheap to buy OTC, both main chain pharmacies stock it.
I routinely take 400iu a day in addition to AdCal tablets. This summer was a good one for VitD.
I take calcichew 1000mg prescribed, but take a one vitamin D tablet unprescribed just to be on the safe side. I have had no problems in the two years of taking it and feel great.
Hi
I take 5,000 i.u. Vit D regularly as the majority of people especially the elderly ( I am 70 ) are deficient. Also if you live in the North you are more likely to need it. I am in Scotland. Because we've been told to plaster with suncream we get very little from sunlight. When on holiday I always give myself 10 -- 15 mins before I apply suncream apart from my face. You also need magnesium in order to absorb it and I take 200mg.
