Sambuca,......Fab post, and what a beautiful poem,-Inspirational.!Thank you so much.Trust you and all readers are hanging in.Suex.

Hi Sambuca,

What a good read! It's interesting to see how the guidelines for treating PMR have been laid down quite specifically. They seem quite logical to me - no rapid reductions.

When I think back to the shambolic mess of my first year of treatment, no wonder I had 2 flares and am still struggling after 2.5 years.

Thanks for the info. Will make a note of it and keep.

Pats.

Hi

The protocols followed by Prof Kirwan are those he has introduced by agreement with GPs in his local area of Bristol. They are not currently common practice around the country, So they are not 'guidelines' as such. The article in the NE newsletter is describing the Bristol approach - one method of treating PMR which is a little different to that suggested in the current BSR guidelines. However, the study to revamp the guidelines is going to look at the patient outcomes from a number of different treatment regimes to find out whether there is clear evidence that any of them produce better outcomes than others. We'll be carrying an article on this in our next PMRGCAuk newsletter.
