I have pkd which has also lead to liver cyst. I am due to have a huge liver cyst drained next week and wondered if anyone has had the procedure and what the outcome was?

Liver cyst drainage and de-roofing
Is the surgeon experienced in the intervention? Have they explained all the risks and how long it will take to recover?
Sorry to hijack this thread, husband has had two cysts drained on kidney and has a large one that needs draining on liver we know that treliske (Cornwall) Plymouth and Exeter all shy away as it's not straightforward do you know which hospitals/surgeons are good if we need to travel we can as both our own bosses and friend throughout the country.
Well I was referred to kings college to a surgeon that everyone days is one of the best. I have had the surgery day 6 now I'm in quite a lot of pain and very swollen. I am going to my GP or A&e tomorrow if swelling doesn't start to go down. They could reach the large cyst they were trying to get to in the end. So it was a waste of time as far as I'm concerned a lot of pain for nothing.
Sorry to hear you've had so much pain and swelling with the cyst aspiration. I live in Singapore and had a large liver cyst drained 3 years ago, recovered quite quickly and the area is now flat when it used to be so distended that the bulge was visible. For me, it was worth doing because the only pain was recovering from the very sore throat where they put in the anaesthesia. Do see your surgeon again to see why there is still pain and swelling. It should only be the stitches that need looking after in case of infection. However, other cysts may still pop up in other parts of the liver and kidneys but I'm quite prepared to put up with that now that the largest cyst is drained.
