PT is at its most effective for treating pelvic pain syndromes when supplemented with other strategies. This blog post is dedicated to one such strategy: hypnotherapy.
For the first order of business, I’d like to give you an explanation of what hypnosis is. Then, I’ll briefly take on the stigma surrounding hypnotherapy. After that, we’ll take a look at how you can tell if you’re someone who is “hypnotizable.” Then, we’ll get to the most important part of the post: how hypnotherapy can help with pelvic pain/dysfunction. Lastly, I’ll let you in on how we’ve begun to use tenets of hypnotherapy at PHRC.

I have suffered from Pelvic Floor pain, IC symptoms and IBS since my hysterectomy 3 yrs ago. Hypnotherapy and relaxation are the only things guaranteed to ease my pain for a little while. I take lots of meds to help with the pain, but neuropathic pain does not respond that well to narcotics.
I recorded a hypnotherapy session with my therapist and I listen to it daily. It really helps. It is not a cure-all, but it does provide a temporary respite from the pain.
I did NOT go into any trance. Just felt very, very relaxed and the visuals helped distract me from the pain which is due partially to spasms.
I was very interested in this and can see how can help.
The desert/lemon slice scenario works a second and third time, so the brain can definitely be tricked. Anything that helps hard to treat nerve pain has got to be good.
