I had uterine fibroid embolisation which is crystals injected into the veins then it shrinks this worked for me 5 years ago but now I have a second enlarged one and gynaecology are saying it looks like it's in the wall of the womb I am just waiting for results I have read online that diet can have an affect on an enlarged fibroid I never tried that myself also the coil is known to have a good effect on controlling the bleeding, I was offered this with the 1st one I declined then when I had camera check inside I was told the coil wouldn't go in because of where the fibroid was look into all the different treatments before making a decision the size and where it is located will have an impact on what treatment you can have.
There is evidence to suggest that eating a Mediterranean diet can lower your risk for developing fibroids - so lots of fruit, vegetables and fish. Eating a diet containing lots of red meat especially processed such as ham, bacon and sausages along with cakes, crisps, fatty foods can increase them. Saying that this is the diet we should all be following to reduce our risks of obesity, heart disease and cancer.
To date there is no evidence to suggest that vitamin D has a role in shrinking or preventing fibroids.
I had read there was
A lot of information online unfortunately is incorrect which is why there is so much confusion with all medical conditions especially as some of it is conflicting.
Saying that in the UK and other European countries we are all recommended to take vitamin D during the winter months whilst those who keep covered for religious reasons, are old or who can’t or don’t spend much time in the sun are recommended to take vitamin D all year round. I have had severe deficiency in the past and now despite having treatment and taking a maintenance dose find myself deficient again. Fortunately not to the same extent but due to being on immunosuppressive medication which means I can’t spend much time in the sun I have to rely on diet and supplements.
But your post does highlight the need for good diet 🌟
Like Sue12345678 I have had fibroid embolisation. I had mine done 10 days ago and had it done privately. Whilst I was in the hospital the consultant said there were only 3 people currently doing them on the NHS, I hope he’s wrong! But that there are more people training to do them. The procedure itself was done under sedation rather than a general anaesthetic but I was asleep for all of it apart from at the very beginning and the very end but I was pretty out of it then anyway. Recovery so far has been pretty simple. When I left hospital they gave me a bunch of painkillers to take to manage the pain, I’ve taken little walks most days and now I have low level period pain that I don’t bother with painkillers for.
