Pelvic Pain - To See Gynae or Gastro!?

Hi all. I have been low pelvic pain for about 3 years now. It started mildly and would come and go. GP 3 years ago when pain was mild and intermittent sent me for pelvic mri which didn't show anything and a transvaginal ultrasound which showed nothing - ovaries and bladder OK. At the time of vaginal ultrasound when he pressed the probe deep and back beyond my cervix it was sore and tender. He said I think that was the skin between bladder and colon. My GP said it was painful bladder connected to my ibs so I accepted that and tried diet changes which have not helped. Now 3 years later pain and pressure every day 24 hrs, and can't wear trousers buttoned for long it is relieved a little by either bowel movement or emptying bladder. OK TMI but checking myself vaginally with and empty bowel and while bearing down I can feel about an inch and a half size oval fleshy lump through the vagina colon skin deep at top of vagina. Think may be on colon side and when I press it it increases the pain sensation over the pelvic area. This is the same area the Gynae Dr identified 3 years ago. Sorry for long post I don't know if I should get a referral for gynaecology or gastroenterology. Scared. Anyone had anything similar? Could it be polyps in colon I can feel? Would they cause pain? No bleeding in stool.

Could be a prolapse either rectal, bladder or both. It's not unusual for a vaginal ultrasound to be painful on some bits, I've had many and never had one that didn't cause some discomfort.

Many of us have unexplained pelvic pain, at my last Gynae investigations in Dec ( had many over the years ! ) the Consultant said a lot of pelvic pain is caused by muscle/ligament tightness which makes sense.

If all your scans and tests are normal maybe try some Pilates to strengthen the pelvic floor, I found it very helpful.

Thank you for your quick reply, I know the scans were clear then but this pain has gotten alot worse since then and it's the fleshy lump I found inside which concerns me a lot. Have been reading up on those types of prolapse so yes agree might me that - I have no children so not sure if that makes a difference. Have also been reading about diverticulitis too. Might go for bottom camera 😔 and Gastro Dr. Thanks for reply.

Has your GP checked the "fleshy lump" ? he/she should be able to tell if it's a Gynae or Gastro problem or indeed not a problem, lumps and bumps aren't unusual.

Good luck with it.

No GP has not checked lump. But yes will get them to determine if it's normal or not or which department it is in! and I will take it from there instead of me guessing. I am making a GP appointment on Monday. Thank you.
