Hi,

I have a troublesome rectocele, which is causing me a lot of pain. I think I'm going to need the rectocele repaired, but I don't want to risk possible mesh damage. If anyone knows of a good surgeon (colorectal or gynaecologist) who doesn't use mesh, I'd be really grateful, if you would pm me with their details. I would prefer to see them on the NHS as I don't have a lot of money, but would consider going privately if necessary (which I'll probably have to do, as I'm being referred to see a colorectal surgeon on the NHS at my local hospital, who I know nothing about). I suffer with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia so the nearer to my home on the East Berks/South Bucks area the better, but I would consider trying to travel further afield.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

I can’t help you with the name of a surgeon as I’m not in your area but you need a urogynaecologist. I had a rectocele repair in November no mesh is needed just stitches. Good luck.

Thanks Mc89. Yes, I think whether they use mesh or not depends on how bad/big the rectocele is - And, unfortunately, mine is pretty big :( However, just as you say, I believe that they do usually manage/try to repair them without mesh (at least first time around). I also read that rectocele repairs are usually best done from the vaginal side - especially if they are situated high up - so I will definitely take your advice and get a second opinion from a urogynaecologist (especially as the specialist I'm being referred to locally is a colorectal surgeon and I understand that they only do rectocele repairs via the rectum).

I hope you are faring really well after your op.

Thanks again.
