New pelvic cushion.

Hi everyone,

Was wondering if any one had any advice, I have just received my new cushion from America as advised by pain management consultant in Manchester. Up until now Iv had a memory foam coccyx cushion for the last two years. It did its job coccyx wise but irritated the p n a little . Sitting was still uncomfortable even to eat a meal. So: today I started sitting on new cushion which is like two padded leg pieces either side with a channel down the middle. It is adjustable by Velcro. Don't want to mention it's name in case I'm not allowed. It has caused a flare up of nerve pain after sitting and is still bad now? Any thoughts on this, will I adjust to it or is it s no no ? Hope not as it was the best part of 150.00 pounds with delivery and charges. !

If you have PN then any sitting will irritate the nerve, with or without a cushion. Cushions can ease the pain a little to allow sitting for short periods, but is best to try to avoid it if possible (easier said than done I know!). I have tried all sorts of cushions and none have really helped me, but it can vary person to person. If it has altered your sitting posture it can take a while for the pelvis and muscles to adjust. I have found that avoiding sitting gives me the best relief. I either stand, lie or sit very lazily, leaning back with feet up so nearly horizontal anyway. Unfortunately it is a game if trial and error. Good luck.

It sounds like a cushion I bought a while ago and I'm afraid I had no luck with it. The inside edge on the painful side always seemed to irritate, no matter how I adjusted it. I didn't persevere with it for long, so I don't know whether my muscles would have adjusted. I find that firm, flat surfaces are best for me to sit on. Sorry you're disappointed with the cushion. It's so annoying when you've spent so much money.

Thank you bothso much for teply. The cushion triggered off a bad flare and have had nerve pain continuously. Will Refrain from sitting and hopefully it will settle .

Perhaps a reclining chair may help - or maybe not. Sitting down is unavoidable. I sit on two pillows. I think I will invest in two memory foam pillows to see if that helps. All the best with your new cushions. XX

Iv given up on that cushion! Causes more pain than what it's worth. lol x my coccyx problem adds to the sitting problem too so Iv just resigned myself to try something else. An expensive pastime is this puedendal neuralgia !!

I bought a ring cushion about a year ago. The one with a hole in the middle. Great for the PN but caused too much pain in my thighs and was also unbearable to sit on. Now I just put up with the pain. XX

So do you still manage to sit ? I'm so uncomfortable even just sitting for a meal. Do we cause further damage to the nerve by sitting ?

I've tried a cushion similar to your description, gel with a channel down the middle, quite firm. £100 off Amazon. Helps in the car as that is the most uncomfortable for me. I have tried the ring cushions, too soft. Experimenting with foam squares bought from Amazon, and cutting out areas. Worth trying as the foam is quite cheap.

I only paid approx £29 for the shaped cushion I bought off Amazon. It has a elongated keyhole shape down the middle - no good for coccyx pain, but for me, it is helping, and at a fraction of the cost some of you are paying.
