Azithromycin and Group Practices

My Consultant knows that I’ve had bad infected two years. Now I’ve got rid of pseudomonas again she has put me on one Azithromycin every day. One GP I’ve spoken to sounds sceptical, doesn’t trust what I’m saying, wants letter from consultant. I asked for Azithromycin to be added to my repeat script. Instead has prescribed enough for 2 months, expects consultant to write confirming. She is very busy, when she phoned me was nearly 6pm.

This sums up something what’s wrong with NHS - patients are treated as idiots by GPs. Also being forced into group practices seems to delay rather than help, insist that all correspondence, etc are sent to one doctor I don’t know at group practice. I’ve been patient at my surgery for 64 years, service or lack of it gets worse. Sorry to moan, hope others getting good help. Jean x

I've been on Azithromycin for 2 and a bit years and I haven't had a bad infection since. Hope it works for you. Your surgery sounds annoying, to put it politely. And I don't suppose they know nearly as much about Azith as your consultant does. xxx

Sorry to hear you’re not very happy with the situation with your GP at present. I’m sure your consultant will happily oblige with writing to your GP regarding your continuing use of Azithromycin, most communications are done electronically these days, so it should not be a problem.

I do know that in general Azithromycin is prescribed as a prophylactic antibiotic to those with PCD and it is usually taken as three doses per week, on a Mon, Wed and Fri. Of course there maybe others that are prescribed a different dose and this may be why your GP would like confirmation on the prescribing of a daily dose.
