I was also prescribed Fluoxetine, because I am so tired and have no energy to do anything
Has anyone been prescribed Cetirizine for t... - PBC Foundation
Has anyone been prescribed Cetirizine for the PBC itch AND Fluoxetine because of fatigue and lack of energy?
I have been given Fluoxetine for menopausal hot flushes (takes 6 weeks to kick it but then got rid of 90% of my hot flushes). Doctor told me it was a very mild antidepressant but was found to solve my type of issue also.
I have been on Fluoxetine for 2yrs because of hot flushes after coming off HRT, my flushes turned to hot sweats, was on 40mg daily. have since read that Fluoxetine can cause hot sweats, I am gradually coming off Fluoxetine, this is what lead to me being diagnosed 2 days ago with PBC. Glad it is helping you but take care as it is the same as Prozac. Keep well
Highwood...My Liver Consultant, my GP and my HRT Consultant have all agreed after weeks of discussion I can go onto HRT transdermal bio-identical hormone patches by the name of Femseven Sequi Transdermal Patches 50mg/24hours here in the UK. They didnt want me on any other HRT other than patches to limit what the liver has to cope with. Basically the patch looks like a 2" square piece of Sellotape you stick to your bum or at least anywhere below your waist and change it once a week. It's brilliant and I have now weened myself totally off Fluoxidine, that got rid of 90% my hot flushes and sweats but this has cured them. Happy days!
Glad to hear you are off Fluoxetine, I was on the transdermal patches for 21 yrs, never felt so well, I had to come off them as i had a DVT. I have been pestering my GP to put me back on them, that is how i was diagnosed with PBC, she was paranoid about my history, TIA, Temperal Arteritis, and COPD., so had autoimmune blood test done. Take care. Sue (highwood)
I am on Evorel 50 transdermal patches, tried everything for the hot flushes and for the extreme dryness and discomfort, nothing worked so it was decided I try the patches and I know that they are the only thing helping me. I was also offered floxidine but I refused. Antidepressants only hide problems, they don't solve them .
I was prescribed Cetirizine by my gp and it made no difference. At my annual appointment with my consultant he said that won't work for the itch. He gave me a few options for the itch, colestyramine (Questran), sertraline or some antibiotic. I chose sertraline which is an anti-depressant. I was on that for a year. I put on weight and my muscles were really sore. I stopped taking it recently. It never worked for the itch so back to square one! My consultant thinks it all in the head about fatigue, so no help there.
Lol gizocsi well, yes I felt insulted, I brought my partner along, so he could understand why I was so tired, only for the consultant to play down my tiredness in front of my partner, like to say yes well i bet she puts it son, you can imagine how I felt! To cap it all this consultant was recommended to me from a very reliable source!
I know how you feel. My doctor told me I was anxious and depressed since I kept bringing up how tired I was and she had already told me it's part of my illness. You need antidepressants she announced. I am not depressed I love my life I just can't live it since I'm sleeping all the time. That was it time to change doctors. In 2 weeks my new doctor found a study where they tried Alertec the name brand for Modafinil (only name brand works for me)on 80 people with PBC. Usually used for people with narcolepsy or niteshift workers. It changed my life. I feel normal not revved up. I use to come home at lunch from work to nap then nap again after work and drag myself through the evening. Not anymore. I have my life back. I thank god I found this doctor. I hope it works for some of you. Please let me know if you have the same results it would make my day.
