back and hip pain: does any body have any... - PBC Foundation
back and hip pain
I find heat helps - a hot water bottle or wheat bag or a heat patch like Curaheat. I find a wheat bag really useful as you can mould it around your body. The heat patches are great when you are on the move eg in work and will provide heat for about 8 hours. Some patches are designed to stick directly onto the skin or others onto clothing it all depends on the brand. Pain relieving gels also help like Ibuleve or Voltarol as you can rub them directly into the area but be careful as they contain ibrufen or diclofenac but there are others available from health shops that only have natural ingredients.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Ive recently bought a tens machine for my back and it certainly helps.
I'm having an affair with my hot water bottle. It's true love. My trusty hot water bottle is never far from my side (...or back...or hip...or knee...etc.etc.etc.)!!
This is my first input since joining yesterday and am in the prosess of being diagnosed with pbc. I have spinal degeneration for the last 15 years and have discovered yoga for back problems over the last 4 months. I feel 2inches taller and severity of pain much reduced. The relaxation also let's me temporarily forget the panic of being in this situation. Good luck Sadie
thanks for all your comments and tips tried everything but cant find anything that works waiting to go to hospital for hips and back also see my consultant in may so fingers crossed thanks once again sadie xxx
I had horrendous back and hip pain in pregnancy so advoided using paracetamol but found using heat or cold compresses to the areas did bring relief albeit temporarily. I know pain relief such as Voltarol (also known as Diclofenic if memory serves me right ) is usually good for bone type pain but obviously you will need to check this with your GP. Good luck hope you get relief and reprieve from pain soon.
I have degenerative facit joints and was having bad lower back ,and hip pain , I also have pains in both coller bones (feels like they are broken when I wake up ) and on the left side of my neck , My back would go into spasm at times and I could be incapacitated for days or weeks .. I was referred to a specialist and after MRI scan I was given Radio frequency injections in neck and lower back they worked fantasic in my back in fact it has been nearly a year and I have only had the occiasional twinges , however not much relief for my hip the hip pains slowly crept back after a few weeks ,, and they didnt work in my neck ... But every ones different and they may work for you .Its worth seeing if your GP can refer you for them .
Good Luck
Have you been checked for sacro iliac dysfunction, I am newly diagnosed and also trying different things to help eg: cold pack, tens machine and ultrasound to no avail as yet
