I seem to have become allergic to most medication ie Antibiotics etc which cause pain itch fast heart beat and generally unwell anyone else
Hi there yes I too cannot tolerate antibiotics and pain killers about six years ago I was sent to allergy specialist as every time I took antibiotic I would get awful chest pain rashes breathing difficulty really bad reaction my partner had to call the ambulance. I used to be able to take these antibiotics in fact I used to take one a day as prevention for persistant water infections suddenly I could no longer take most pills then last year I was diagnosed with preclinical Pbc I tested positive (AMA) in 2006 also again in 2008 although I wasn't informed by my doctors until march 2011 about the positive AMA tests (there now my ex doctors ) it was around the same time I developed the problems taking antibiotics and pain killers I believe my liver cannot cope when I take anything also I noticed alcohol intolerance about five years ago I think this is more than a coincidence I got bad upper right quadrent pain and rapid heart beat if I drank one glass of any alcohol also burning hot face. and head not a good look Lol I don't take anything at the moment because I'm too scared of the awful reactions sorry if if I've gone on a bit . by the way allergist thinks along the same lines also . If I have to take an antibiotic I always have an antihistamine with me this helps immensely and stops the reaction if I take something I can't tolerate hope this helps x
Hi Wendom thank you for your answer. At least I know I'm not alone now. I have taken urso since 2006 when I was told I had pbc. I've been quite healthy since then until recently when the reactions to medications started. I too was on a daily antibiotic for water infections but cannot take these now. Do you take urso or milk thistle tablets?
Hi, I haven't been able to take any painkillers or other drugs since I went on Urso, I go hot, start to sweat, lips sweat and the inside of my mouth gets sore. I also star to feel very unwell, Like you wendorm I am scared to take anything.
yes, i avoid taking medications, because i never know what may happen. i've had an upper respiratory infection for 2 weeks now, but am just letting it run it's course cause i know i could be worse off if i take meds. i'm sure it has to do with the way this things need to metabolize through the liver.
Hi we do seem to have a lot in common I have researched a lot since finding out about Pbc in march 2011 and what I have read is that there seems to be some connection with Pbc and water infections I have had many at 46 I have probably had more than twenty I was always fine taking antibiotics until about 6 or so years ago . When I saw the liver doctor for the first time last August I had positive AMA for 6 years although I have only known for 15 months (doctors didn't inform me of positive AMA ) I had positive IGM too but I had normal liver function tests but liver doc said I am symptomatic for Pbc I have dry eyes dry mouth upper right quadrent pain and extreme fatigue I asked the specialist for the urso but she refused and said I have to wait until my liver functions change I last had my liver functions tested in march and my ALT has increased but only by a few points so they still won't start me on urso even though they say I have Pbc I don't take milk thistle to be honest I'm terrified of taking anything I even started to have panic attacks even if I tried 1 paracetamol when the time comes for me to take urso I know I will have the panic attacks but I know that I will have to try but I'm so scared of pills I hope this helps you I was wondering if you are ok taking urso x
Yes I have taken urso for 6 years and seem to be ok with it. Its only in the last year or so that I seem to be taking reactions to medication and its getting worse each time. My liver specialist had suggested I take milk thistle a few years ago but I stopped after a while. My lfts are normal just don't understand why the med reaction has started but I'm due to see specialist again in a few months so will see what they say. Hope you get more positive results on your next visit.
