Restless Legs - GP answers the question.

Just to let the people who asked me to post how I got on at the GPs with my restless legs and twitching.

The dr said it is possible to treat, as I think someone mentioned you have to take a valium based medicine, or alternatively drugs developed for parkinsons. In my case she has decided to send my to neurology as I have other neuro symptoms so I have to wait for treatment until they have seen me.

But main point: this IS a symptom that is treatable.

I was having a terrible time with restless legs, but I've been on pramipexole for many months and now have no problems :)

Good to know. I take it the pramipexole does not affect the liver? Is it your whole leg or just your calves? Do you just get it in bed? x

I take it the valium is ok to take with the problems with the liver? I don't know if I could stomach another tablet!!!! I know my sister was taking some drug for her restless legs but it did not agree with her. Mine is really my calves that are very aggitated and restless mainly in bed. What about you? x

Hi there

it was mainly my legs from the knees down, was really bad, (mainly at night but less during the day) when I would eventually get to sleep my husband would be awake due to my legs jumping lol, it also started in my hand, only way I can explain it was that they felt aggitated and I would only get relief if I moved or rubbed my hands, The first drug I got was carbamazepine and it was an epilepsy drug, however, that did not agree with me (came out in a very nasty rash) the one Im on just now is for parkinsons and so far its been great. :)

I think the one my sister was on was for MS... My problem

is also from the knee down but mainly my calves. Does not happen all the time so just put up with it. Don't want to take anymore drugs. On too

many as it is. Hopefully it will stay that way. X

Hi I suffered with restless legs when I was pregnant, I found Indian tonic water very

Effective due to the quinine in it, I'd have a glass just before I went to bed & it seemed to really help. I read that doctors recommend it for muscle relief
