All this week I want to share some facts

The exact number of rare diseases is unknown, but estimates vary widely. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), there are over 7,000 identified rare diseases. The Orphanet database, a comprehensive listing of rare diseases, lists over 6,800 entries.

It's important to note that the definition of a "rare disease" can vary depending on the country or organization. Generally, a disease is considered rare if it affects fewer than 200,000 people in the United States or 1 in 10,000 people in the European Union.

Furthermore, new rare diseases are being discovered and identified regularly, so the actual number is likely to increase over time.
