Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) This is a cancer of the hepatocytes ( liver cells).
This is usually a secondary cancer, the primary site often being the colon or large bowel.
The instances of it being a primary cancer is rising, often resulting from a cirrhotic liver. Dr. Jones' suggests screening every 6 months with an ultrasound and a blood test called alpha-fetoprotein when HCC may be suspected.
The management of HCC is very complicated. It is far better to continue a course of prevention of cirrhosis .
