fibroscan results: hi just had the results of... - PBC Foundation
fibroscan results
Do you have a copy of the report? There is a section that explains how the numbers fit into categories like the below. The doctor should have explained that to you or discuss with you. I know because my doctor showed me the scoring etc…after we did the fibroscan the first time.
A FibroScan, or liver elastography, is a test that uses sound to measure liver stiffness and health, and can also show damage.
Not sure if there are differences on the ranges used depending on the machine too.
The results are measured in kiloPascals (kPa) and range from 2–75, with a normal range of 2–7 kPa and an average result of 5.3 kPa.
A higher score indicates that the liver is more likely to have fibrosis or cirrhosis.
The results are also used to determine a fibrosis score, which ranges from F0–F4:
F0 to F1: No scarring or mild scarring (considered a normal result)
F2: Moderate scarring
F3: Severe scarring
F4: Advanced liver scarring (AKA cirrhosis)
Mine fibroscan number took several years to go down to normal, so as long as it decreases a few points every year, I wouldn't worry.
My Fibroscan results went from 11.4 and have gone down to 7.4 over a period of 8 years . I have no PBC symptoms at the moment.
Don’t worry too much about your first result.
so strange.. I literally just finished reading what Dr. Jones has to say about Fibroscan results.
A value below 7.8 suggests a very low risk of complication development.
Values above 15.1 indicate a significant risk of developing complications.
Those in the low risk category should be scanned every 3-5 years.
If you are in a higher risk category, then annually.
