According to Dr. Jones, PBC is not genetic - but is familial. There is no 'PBC gene' that is passed to our children. Our immune system 'make up' ,however, can be passed to our children making them capable of having that same kind of immune system. There is less than a 1 out of 100 chances of our daughters having PBC.

Should you have your daughters regularly tested? Dr. Jones says no. You should do so, however, if she has abnormal Iiver enzymes or exhibits the symptoms of PBC that so many of us have - the itch or the extreme fatigue.

Our sons have an even less of a chance of having similar immune systems from us.

Hope this is helpful to those of us who have sons and daughters.
