Rifampicin - This is used for moderate to severe itching. Usually given if cholestryamine has been ineffective in helping the itch. Dosage begins at 150mgs daily.
It can sometimes cause nausea, and more significantly can cause some elevation in liver enzymes. When starting it, liver function tests should be done 2-4 weeks afterwards.
For some it has been very effective for many years controlling their itch. * It can cause your sweat and urine to be orange.. beware.

A most effective drug for me and a huge relief that there was something out there that took away the nightmare that was my "itch". Took 300mgs though to sort me out, no change in the colour of my tears or urine - I was lucky.
I'm so happy that you found something that helped your itching. Thanks for validating to others that it does work for some. The itch is nothing short of a nightmare that never seems to end. I remember all too well how consuming that itch was for me and little help out there back in the early 2000's. So glad it helped you!
