Be really careful with supplements. I have go to the Mayo Clinic and I’m in compensated cirrhosis. My numbers have never normalized. I’ve been taking Milk Thistle and Sam-e for YEARS and they asked me to stop about a month ago.

I had not been off them for one full month between blood draws, maybe 3 weeks? Anyway, my numbers DID drop, and more importantly total bilirubin is in the normal range, and it’s never been… 😮 What if the supplements I’ve been taking to help have been hurting me the whole time? They said that a lot of times supplements have additives or fillers that are harmful to the liver.

Just my 2 cents… be super careful with supplements.

I had a somewhat similar experience. When i was hospitalized for covid, i couldn't bring any meds with me. I stopped taking supplements from there on out except for IV vitamin and occasionally probiotics. My numbers improved as well.

Wow. So Artichoke is not a supplement, It's a vegetable. And some people take it in dehydrated form. Artichokes share a lot of commonality nutrient wise with cruciferous vegetables which are wonderful for the liver because they are anti-inflammatory. This is all I will post because whenever someone has something to say about non western medicine there is a lot of blowback here. So much that I left the boards and haven't posted in years. I totally control my PBC (and six other auto immune conditions) with diet and "supplements" (but I repeat that artichoke is NOT a supplement). Every body is different but my numbers got better dropping URSO and taking TUDCA (yup, a supplement). My heptologist knows and can't argue with the results as my numbers have dropped and my fibroscans improved. There is not one answer and it can be hard to find a doctor who believes in alternative medicine but, for me, it was worth looking for one who wanted to partner with me in my journey...I am not a passive patient. I wish you well in your own personal journey. And that is what it is, your OWN personal journey. Your liver processes everything you put into your body so you can't compare what works for you to what works for someone else...their diet may be completely different from yours and your diet effects everything. Namaste.

make sure you don’t have IBS. I had to go on a low Fodmap diet for awhile and artichokes are high in Fodmaps. Bloating is a question for your gastroenterologist as is whether or not a low Fodmap test diet will help you.
