Bile Acid Diarrhoea: Hi just wondering if... - PBC Foundation
Bile Acid Diarrhoea
I do- but I have IBS. I get very sick from medications- but I’m fine with the Urso.
Hope that helps!
Hi , this has caught my attention . I am 3 years post transplant , 2 years post I had to have a bile duct reconstruction & a couple of months after that my stomach/abdomen swelled up & the fear was ascites but scans showed it is gas , I do suffer with acid reflux & have been on Lansoprazole for many years that overall controls it very well but they have no idea where the gas is coming from but I do suffer with alot of diarrhea & very loud sound's from my stomach after eating or drinking . I have had the barium meal procedure & all was well . They now think I may have a blood flow problem so having another CT scan specially to detect this but I'm not so sure this is the case as my Lansoprazole don't seem to be working as well as normal so having bouts of acid problems & like I said problems with diarrhea... I have never heard of BAD & didn't know you could have this ! How where you diagnosed please ? X
Hi Vicary sometimes the consultant will diagnose it on symptoms and give a trial of Cholestagel which is a bile acid mopper. If that works they don’t go any further if not, there is a blood test they can do. It’s also called Bile Acid Malabsorption. It usually happens if you’ve had your gallbladder removed or any kind of surgery on your digestive system. It can also be from SIBO ( small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) which can be a result of using a PPI. It’s. Sounds as if you could have this. It’s very often overlooked by Dr as it’s never at the top of the list. I think the medics might be coming more aware of it. It’d be an idea to ask your Dr for a trial of the medicine and see. It is prescription.
I hope this helps and you get sorted soon🥰
Yeh I've had my gallbladder removed , it's standard procedure when you have a transplant . I will definitely be talking to my consultant about this being a possibility. Thank you for all the information 🥰
